My opinion is that each guitar has something special to offer. If one model offered all the possible options, then there wouldn't need to be various models of guitars.
I think the main thing for the signature guitars though is that EBMM builds as to the artist' spec.

I think it's around 90,000 options being offered by MM so far with a 3-6 month back order. This would only add more pressure

It's true, the options offered are pretty staggering. And the artist models aren't just the same ole guitar with different pickups or slightly different neck, as is common elsewhere. Each model is unique.

Ok, how about an Axis with 3 MM P90s? (j/k!)

would be nice, but no matter what MM offers we'll never be satisfied

Very true, but R&D focus groups rarely are ever completely satisfied.

Not being a collector or a regularly gigging pro, I'm perfectly happy with my Silo Special twins. 'Course I get curious, sometimes very curious, about a Luke or AL, but the fact is, the Silos do precisely what I want my guitars to do. Have said this before that, if I had the whole EBMM team design a model just for me, it would still come out a Sil Special. Wouldn't change a thing.

Just curious, Rob, why the Special and not an Axis? Thought you loved the Special.

I think Rob is right. You have to try an AL. It's really wonderful. I hope that one of these days I can find a 2006LE AL either NOS or used somewhere. I tried a SSS version in Dallas through one of those Fender Twins with the 15" speaker. Man, I was so impressed.

I was planning to put a deposit down on either an F-1 or a 2007LE something or other after selling my Taylor to a bloke in the UK. That plan was nearly derailed, because Pete D's inventory page showed a 2006LE AL with MM90s, which, I guess, is sold. He's got a Pearl Blue SSS, but I'd rather have an LE or a transparent color. So, I'm just going to stick with my plan of getting my F-1 (more likely) or 2007LE (less likely).

Tying one is out of the question where I live. I'd have to buy it untried. We'll see.

Rob, which do you prefer, the MMP90s or standard single coils?

Bruce, I have no evidence for this except my gut feeling (based on reading your posts, listening to one of your tracks), but I read you as an MM90 sorta guy.

Wel i put my sunburst MM90 ASS as well on ebay, i only need to sell one of them to get another AL. Seeing as i have 4 Ass's and i have a DD Silo coming i dont need the blue silo anymore, and i have way too many guitars anyway!!!!

As for the AL, i love the MM90s much more than the SSS, but both are unbelieveable.

You may be right, Steve. Dunno. Not all single coil rigs have grabbed me, especially not 'alternative' type single coils, such as G&L's MFD ceramic p'ups. The AL samples I've heard remind me a little of MFD's in that they're fatter and rounder sounding, though the AL tones sound far better (to my ears) than my old S-500 or Asat rigs ever did. Vintage strat tones don't hold my attention very long either. The Silo Sp. fills my niche better than anything I've played so far. And for sheer versatility, I don't think it gets any better.

If I was in tall financial clover, I'd just get one, and a Luke while I was at it, then try them out. Such is not the case for this chapter of life. Prudence would necessitate selling off one of my Silos to do it. Who knows? I love the looks of the AL. The Silo Special never struck me as particularly ascetically pleasing, but functionally I think it's unmatched, and that floats my boat.

Does anyone know if either of AL's p'up choices are alnico or ceramic?

I forgot about the DD you have coming! Ok, Rob, you've been re-accepted into the Sacred Order Of Specialhood :D .

The AL singles are Duncan Alnico II's the 90's are wound in house at MM - I don't know which magnets they use (I believe they use alnico, ceramic, and neodynium on the basses so they would all be in house)

Here you go roburado
eBay: 2006 ALBERT LEE BY ERNIE BALL MUSIC MAN (item 130080132885 end time Feb-21-07 10:15:05 PST)

The AL's are an AWSOME guitar candid, you'll never look at another single coil guitar the same again, blows pretty much everything out of the water. I played an awsome hardtail AL about 1 1/2 years ago, but never bought it, and i still kick myself to this day because i didn't buy it. It would be the best money you have ever spent.

Do you AL owners prefer maple or rosewood boards? I assume it's the same as with other guitars: rosewood being warmer, maple being brighter?
