That was straaaaange indeed???
But then, it really isn't stranger that say, a MM lookalike pick up on a j bass, is it?
I mean, he probably likes the neck and body shape, but there is something not quite right in his head so he wants j shaped pick ups:p

I love my Sterling, and I love the sound of it, but I also like the sound of my Jazz, so I have wondered how it would sound putting a set of j singlecoils in a Sterling, so the same style, feel and quality of an EBMM, but a Jazz sound.
at the moment I just stick to playing my jazz when I feel the need for a jazz sound

Were it me, I'd keep right on doing what you're doing.

Well, I know that this will probably never happen, but I actually wish that EBMM would make passive J-style and P-style basses with EBMM neck-profiles and no neck-diving. That would be great. And then all my bass-needs would be fulfilled by EBMM.
Haha, I imagine BP reading this: "What???? So now they want us to make J and P-basses!?!?!?.....Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggghhhhh!!!":D

They already do basses with one singlecoil, will there ever be a jump to one with two of them?

Yeah but does it really produce a J Bass tone?

The J Bass sound is the sum of the package. The body shape, the electronics, the neck shape, the position of the pups, the quantity of wood present etc. etc.. Each part makes an incremental contribution. Miniscule if taken individually but together they make a J bass sound like a J bass.

I doubt that putting a humbucker on a J bass will make it sound like a Stingray.
