What a nasty mess that is.

The neckplate screws look like they've been sunken into the plate somehow. (Maybe that's what cracked the body in half!)

Rod Trussbroken (Gav) can weigh in on the electronics.

But it is just nasty, isn't it?

So, we're talking almost $500 for a preamp and a set of tuners, given that the pickup looks damaged and the body and neck are firewood now.

Guys I could take this bass and make it totally new even with a cracked body and it'd sound a million bucks. These basses are getting rarer and rarer every year. The pickup could easily be rewound if need be and the neck could be totally refurbished in around 3 days so it's far from firewood in my opinion.

Here's a question for anyone. Anybody have a broken MM like this they think is busted? I buy if off you for the same and restore it for this forum to show you old basses never die. Feel free to drop me a line.

This is an easy one really as the this part of the headstock bears no weight and you could rebuild and reshape it. What I'm after is something with the body and some other items aswell (doesn't have to be everything), so it's a good start thanks Mark.

Anyone else with a genuine MM bass that's been broken or damaged (flood or dropped etc!) and want's to sell it as they don't have the tools/skills? let me know.

OK, Mr Levins Trace and Stingray are clearly DOA.

Anyone else? Surely there must be a Ray out there that is saveable but just needs someone to give it some TLC?

If it is possible straighten a twisted neck on a '79 Sabre...that neck is so twisted that I had to get new offset saddles to make the strings sit right on the neck...great recording bass though

There is the possibility that if I could win the one that Aussie Mark suggested on ebay I could rebuild it for you with the correct logo etc?

Wasn't there a forumite who had a fire damaged Stingray (other than Tony Levin)? Or was it a vehicle accident? Either way, that might be another candidate for restoration.

I do actually remember this myself somehow! If I remember right they had gotten a new neck for it from EB.

There was another bass (89 model I believe) up for grabs a few months back on ebay in the UK that had had the body smashed in half (ala Pete Townsend) and the owner had another body made my a luthier.

Anymore?

ps. Aussie Mark, I'm in Sydney where are you?

Randy's Stingray's neck was busted up after a wreck, but the good folks at EBMM fixed it right up for him. It was a happy ending!
