I hope this is ok with BP and associates. If not, please delete this thread. But, I thought opening a separate thread for Ball samples might be fun and informative.

My thought is to keep them brief, and focused on the sound of guitar/amp, rather than on our godly gifts of guitar playing :D. Information such as: guitar model, pickups used, amp, etc would be, I think, helpful. Personally, I'd also rather hear the guitar/amp rather than heavy effects; but maybe that's just me.

Watcha think?

super idea Bruce, i really prefer to hear the different guitars played clean or with minimal effects, to give a true indication of the tone. for instance, i think strummming a G chord just once on my AL using neck/middle is a great tone, just one simple strum by itself! Gives a great indication of the sparkling clean tone.

I did an A/B/C with DD Luke, 20th and EVH at rehearsal the other night to demontrate the tonal differences of each to the rest of the band cohorts. In that situation there were light bulbs popping all over the place. They finally get why I change guitars so much in a show....

Okay, here goes nothin'...

Just upload a few short clips. Recorded direct from SM57 to computer, through sound card, plugged into the little input thingy on the computer speaker. (we're high tech around here) :p Anything I add will be through either a Laney LC50 or LH50.

Silo Special, clean, position 2 (pay no attention to the name of the link.. weird..)

This sounds like a great idea. Tomorrow afternoon I'll slap some new strings in my AL and go to town. :)

Hope I'm not being too gabby, but this stuff excites me.

What I'd love to hear is a side by side comparison of two ALs; one with P90s and one with standard p'ups. Whadia say, Rob?

Rob, I also have zero recording gear. I run an SM57 through an adapter, which goes directly to my computer via 1/8" (I think) plug. There's a minimal recorder and editor, which is part of the soundcard software, but no EQ. Imo, for this kind of sampling, it's better without too much edit tweaking. If your computer is newer than 4 years old, check your soundcard CD; there may be a recorder there to install. I use dBpower AMP to convert wave files to MP3, but your soundcard software may also have a converter.
