I know there are different tastes, but there are constants in quality and sound.
What head brands are better in order?

I´m looking for a 300W head.
GK, Hartke, Ashdown, Trace Elliot.

Mark Bass all the Way or GK, Either are great with Music Man Basses.

Here is the bottom line, everyone here is different, we all like different things, different sounds, what you need to do, is take YOUR bass guitar into the music stores, and play your guitar through everything, every bass amp you can, find the one you think sounds the best, and fits your budget, and thats the one you need to buy!

Impossible to do

I found this impossible to do. You must have a trained ear to detect a good amp in a store. Different stores, different conditions, instruments, strings, etc. Plus, if you cranck the volume at 12 o clock, you can ruin the store. The perfect condition its playing with your instrument, loud with a drummer, and hearing how the equipment cuts through the mix.

Why not go with a separate pre and power?
I use a Demeter VTBP-201S and a QSC power amp.

Before I went pre/power amp, I was a big Trace Elliot head fan. I've had 4 so far, and they never let me down. I actually have the newest AH1000-12 on order because it's now down to 2 rack spaces.

A sleeper head that sounded really good and is inexpensive is the Yorkville XS800H. I had one of those just prior to my pre/power setup. Since you are looking in the 300 watt range, check out the smaller Yorkville XS400H.

Good luck in your search.
