Envious. I'll probably just wait until the next DT tour to see JP in action. I wish it was still Vai and Petrucci, Paul Gilbert is cool, but I don't care much for Satch.

Nonetheless, enjoy yourself :)

Hey! I was supposed to leave for Phoenix yesterday to see my sis-in-law, but after my wife totalled her car we had to cancel.

Too bad, maybe I could have bought Poppa a club soda.

Don't tell NorM that you're in his state! :D

Im off to Phoenix and Vegas for G3...will give detail reports

Vegas Pug...didn't you say you were going?
Hey BP, take time to check out the MIX lounge atop the 64 floor of mandalay bay (THE HOTEL part). Absolutely breathtaking. Also, Charlie Palmer Steak in the FOUR SEASONS (also part of mandalay bay) is a really nice restaurant away from the noise. Ate there last month.

You lucky dog, BP. I'll be seeing G3 in the world's most famous arena here in NYC.

Oh, and your PM-box is full.

have a safe trip, BP. Have fun. Let us know how those F-1s are treating JP. Or...better yet, convince him to give us an update. :D

SXSW Report Day 1 -

I am here in one of my favorite cities, Austin Texas enjoying the sights and sounds of The South By Southwest Music Festival. For those of who who haven't been it is a massive zoo of 300,000 people including - bands, agents, managers, weasels, guitar string companies etc. Basically a melting pot of the entire music industry. A lot of peers that I work with are here so it is nice to meet up in person in this environment, a little bit of a good change from daily blackberry emails.

I wanted to give you guys a birds eye view into the festival, bands, and my experience here.

After flying in to Austin I met up with a few friends of mine - A former SLO standout athelete Scott Dodge and Chicago Bears Running Back Cedric Benson. They were nice enough to pick me up from the airport and we quickly went and got some unbelievable beef brisket tacos. THEY WERE UNREAL.

After checking into the hotel room we went to the Levi Jeans/Guitar Center/ Fader Magazine party and met up with the groovy marketing folks from GC. We did a cross promotion for all the bands playing at this party get dialed in with free strings, wonder wipes, picks etc. A guitar tech on site sets up everyones guitar at the Ernie Ball Guitar Center Axesmith. Pretty groovin.

After going there I met up with the owner of Pure Volume at Flemings restuarant here in town and had an awesome meal. For those of you who dont know Pure Volume, it is an amazing website that provides bands and artists the ability to digitally promote and stream their music. A good alternative to My Space and the creepy comments. The Ernie Ball Mobile Stage is here acting as the stage for the Pure Volume week long showcase parties. We could not be happier with the placement the stage has. WE are in the heart of 6th street on the corner of Trinity.

www.purevolume.com

I watched a few bands that I really enjoyed today on our stage. Its funny that I hear there is no good music out there and being a musician is a thing of the past. That is a bunch of BS if you ask me.

A few bands to check out that played on the EB stage -

No More Kings - 4 part harmonies, good funky pop band. They had the crowd jumping.

www.myspace.com/nomorekings
www.purevolume.com/astallaslions
www.myspace.com/astallaslions - Ambient indie rock band in the vein of Circa Survive
www.purevolume.com/dangerradio
www.myspace.com/dangerradio - Very young band mixes electronica with funk. Cool hybrid sound that everyone danced to.

So on with my day....The MXPX guys are in town and met us for dinner at Flemings. A lot of laughs and a good time. MXPX did not go on until 1 AM at the Tooth and Nail showcase party. Mike played his custom mustard yellow sting ray and gave me a shout out on stage. It was pretty cool as he got the whole crowd to cheer for Ernie Ball in unison. A memory I will not forget. Details for the rest of the night get hazy as they like to party.

Today I woke up and headed over to our stage to watch Monty Are I play. Monty won the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 7 and is signed to Island records. They were better than I have ever seen them and had a lot of fans. After a cold one with the guys I did an interview that will be up on you tube soon. Props to ryan mclain and jason they are doing a great job on our stage and always fliming for video contest.

www.myspace.com/montyareI - please check them out!!!

I am meeting Kevin Lyman - warped tour producer founder - for a cocktail then I am heading over to see a band called the cold war kids play. They are getting huge.

After that I am going to see Joe Purdy play with Pete Townshend from the Who. Joe is a brand new artist that is making a name for himself and I got to meet Pete this year with the family when we gave him a nice gift that commemerates playing our strings for 40 years. Pete was really nice and I hope I an say Hello to him.

A very cool venue called la zona rosa....www.myspace.com/joepurdy - Reminds me of a piano fueled Rodney Crowell. Girls love him and lyrically he is a wordsmith. I dig this kind of music bigtime.

After that I see MXPX play on the Ernie Ball Stage! That is at 8 PM tonight so I think we will have a lot of people in front of our stage.

Lastly, in amazement I just found out Tom Morello is playing a solo acoustic set at 1230 AM. Tom is one of the reasons I picked up a guitar and is still one of my favorite guitar players. I am pumped for Rage at Coachella....

So hopefully you guys are still awake after that long post. Stay tuned for Report # 2.

-Brian
