EVH trans black finish turns to green? Pictures wanted!!!

Hi guys,

I would like to have some EBMM EVH trans black pictures. I already got some sweet quilted-top pictures but still lack of flame-top pics. Anyone who can help me?

Main question: I know a trans black EBMM EVH (see pic) that turned into a green colored top over the years. Is this a regular change that happens to many EBMM trans black finishes or just a rare color change that happened by accident due to heavy use?

Is it possible to force such a color change? By which means?

There are many blacks like that..... maybe they used licorice juice for dye !

Some of the dyes on the EVH guitars were prone to fading. Short of leaving it in your garden in the sunshine, I don't think there is much you can do to force it! Maybe put it on a sunbed

The fading probably has something to do with UV exposure. If that's the case you might be able to accelerate the effect by leaving it under a blacklight pretty much all the time. I'm just speculating, but it's quite possible the pigment is even more sensitive to shorter-wavelength UV like UV-B and UV-C...but you don't really want to expose yourself to that, UV-C especially is considered harmful to human tissue.

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome. I PM'd Frogman and I'm sure he will have some nice pics for me.

Actually I don't own a EBMM (just a Gibson LP and a PRS CU22), but a faded EVH as well as a fully loaded 6-string PET are on my list. Unfortunately they're quite expensive in Germany. So I will have to wait for my next US-trip to take one back home (or probably two?).

I know: Once started with EBMM it's senseless to resist. Does ANYONE here in this forum owns just one of them?

Another general question: Does the EVH-finish differ from nowadays' Axis models or could I save buckets of bugs by acquiring an ordinary trans black Axis and exposing it to the sun for a couple of weeks? (BTW we DO have lots of sunshine here in Germany)

Yep, they are different. You won't see any fade on the Axis models.

here is a picture of mine. the guitar was build finished on 24th of december 1991.

the EBMM is the only guitar i still own, the others had to go.
