thats luke's signature on the back plate.. and i already remove that back plate from that guitar.. so the signature will always safe there..

I'm with Brent. I could see using clear nail polish on the back plate if you had JP sign there. On a painted surface of the guitar? Hell no. IMHO, I think that would look terrible. Of course, anything could happen once you put the polish on there. Who knows? You could accidentally touch it before it's dry and ruin everything. Who knows? Just get it painted professionally.

As a follow-up to your question. Since Tommy had Steve Morse sign his guitar three times, does that make it go up in value three times as much?

I think nail polish would leave a rough edge where the guitar finish meets the nail polish. Your best bet to preserve the integrity of the instrument and the signature is to have it get sprayed by a local luither.

There may also be nitrocellulose (lacquer), solvent and formaldehyde in nail polish.

Personally, I wouldn't want my guitars signed, unless by Lao Tze or Jesus.

Obviously, this is coming a little too late in this case, but I've found that the back of the headstock is a really nice place for an artist to sign on a guitar.

You have a point. I sometimes forget what decade we're in. Painted nails were cool in the 80s, out in the 90s, so I guess they're back in again. And I don't even wanna know what's getting pierced these days.

The only really good way of doing this is to scuff the surface where the autograph is going to be. It's not easy to get a clear coat to stick on the poly finish unless the surface is scuffed.

I found that the back of the head stock on a music man is very small so it wouldnt have fit.

if u try to brush something over it.....it will look terrible !!!!!!!!!!!plus nail polish may very easily smear the pen paint.
if u care alot about how it looks....u better have it sprayed by a pro w/ clear poly.
there are also vynal sheets that will stick to the body w/ no adhesives. i will try to find a pack i have around here somewhere to give u the brand/manufacturer.
as beautiful as that guitar looks....don't take any chances. i really think nail polish will turn into a nightmare !!!!!

I recall someone using a small coat of acrylic over his JP and looked pretty good. Maybe the forumer will chime in and post how he did it.

I think he had a Graphite Pearl JP

I buy those clear stick-on classical pickguards (adhesive backed).

You cut them to fit, works like a charm.

I've had it on my PRB that JP signed for years with no problems.
