When I first started thinking about ordering a Petrucci, I thought it would be awesome to have one with a simple natural finish all around. I was kinda bummed when I found it wasn't an option. Anyone know why this is?

Ah, that would make sense.

I still think a JP would look sick with a nice, light colored stain and some chrome hardware :)

Someone on here stripped the finish off of their OLP to make it natural... Looked pretty damn sweet too

I think the axe on the following pictures is an unfinished JP-Prototype.

Exactly. Id like to take that and stain it, no fade. No quilt, no flame, just natural.
mmmh. you could take yours and sand it down. ;)
I made it with a cheap strat-copy. It was work for about 2 days. All done by hand and sandpaper. Feels great

I think it´s not available, because it is not spectacular, no quilt/flame, that´s what most people want.

btw. morse´s blueburst & sunburst is also transparent and you can see the grain of the wood, which is unspectacular but nice.

I've wondered this myself. I love wood-stain guitars so much more than straight color finishes. If this was a finish option there is no doubt I would order one.

Something tells me though I'm not going to by an expensive JP and sand it down!

It is tempting to buy an OLP and sand it down. I just wonder if it is like my peavey strat copy i sanded down. I got all the paint off it and realized it was two types of wood pressed together. One for the top and bottom of the guitar and another for the middle. Ended up having to make it an interesting two tone. Black w/ blue pearl around the darker middle wood and left the top and bottom natural. Pretty original. Just makes me think an OLP might be made the same to save on production costs to keep the price cheap...

Agreed. I sanded down my 1b@n3z RG and put the Picasso Petrucci graphic on it. I've sanded and finished a few guitars, it's a fun hobby, but unless I should stumble across a petrucci with some fixable damage for a cheap price, I doubt I'll defile an EB.

24th, you could do an OLP and it would look tight afterward, but if I was going to put massive work into something, I'd want it to be awesome when it came out. Maybe EB will release a limited run of something like this :)

MusicManJP6, sounds cool, got any pics?

Scarifi3d did that mod on his OLP JP...
Here are some of the pictures, haven't seen him on the board lately though.

wow that's pretty. i think it would look a lot more complete with the piezo option and the ernie ball logo on the headstock.

Jimothy, thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think the quality of an OLP warrants any investment of my time. It's EBMM or bust, and I'm not about to tear one of those apart.

Speaking of that... what's the most natural finish I could get on one of these? I think maybe the pearl redburst? I have been trying to dig up good pictures of every Petrucci color, but I can't find a lot ("pics of my guitar" thread pic links are down). Any suggestions? Don't think I can afford the F-1.

24th, agreed. Those things are just too pretty to begin with. And no mistakes can be made. I'd much rather just keep the paint on.
