Axis SS - help before I order

Newbie just got bitten by the EBMM bug - man I can't shake it... Thanks people for any help here...

I'm zeroing in on a Axis SS w/
- MM90
- Trem
- Maple Fretboard

1) Can anyone give their opinion on going with the MM90 v. H?

2) Also - as for the color, my current thought (in order)
- honey burst
- gold burst
- natural
I heard a suggestion today for a back cherry burst with rosewood neck/board. Sounds very cool, but the problem I have with the darker bursts, eg tabaco, etc. is I don't like the black paint covering up the cool wood grain...

3) When ordering, are quilted or flamed tops an item or do you just get what you get?

I have yet to play the MM90's. I don't want to assume they would give you a standard single coil sound, because from everything I've read on here...they can rock too.

I think it depends on what you want to do with them / what style of music you play.

i would go HH on an Axis SS, they are very versatile and sound amazing, best rock pickups ever. honeyburst has to be the best ASS colour.

I'm with Rob on the colour: Honey Burst is absolutely amazing!

I myself own one with the MM90 pickups, and I really like 'm! (actually like 'm better than the humbuckers, but that's just my opinion...)

And don't forget: you might want to consider the Piezo option! Opens up a whole new can of sounds that you can get out of an already very versatile guitar!

i have an ASS MM90 w/ peizo and LOVE it!!!

now keep in mind that besides the MM90's sounding different than the buckers the MM90's have a 3 way switch and the HH have a 5 way switch. that could play a factor in your decision.

the peizo is a really fun addition too. if you can afford it i say you get the peizo upgrade

Humbuckers are the way forward! Though the MM90's are supposed to sound killer, not that I have ever tried them.

I also prefer the buckers, and they look so cool in zebra! But check the radrock's thread about the MM90, great sound coming from those pup's!
