I love most of the stuff on Lou Reed's Blue Mask album. Especially "I Love Women."

Another great unkown song with simple but awesome fretless bass is Citizen Cope's, "If There's Love." I think Meshell D however you spell her name plays on it, not sure though.

I enjoy playing Rush on my fretless, especially Fly by Night and Passage to Bangkok.

Roundabout by Yes if fun on fretless too.

None of the 3 are played or recorded fretless, but I enjoy them more on my fretless than fretted.
:D

Correction If I may Bass player from Skyhooks didn't play on Your the voice he just appeared in the film clip it was the original bassplayer from LRB who played on the track who is a great session player and played on alot of tracks in the 80s and 90s.:)

Hey Scott, thanks for the welcome and correction. I was basing my assumption on recognising the Skyhooks bass player in the video clip. As he was in the clip I also assumed he was in John Farnham's lineup for the album.

Cheers

Roger McLachlan - also played with Stars. Roger gave me GAS for a Maton Jumbuck JB-4 real bad in the 80's. Killer player.

Alz, Good choice. I absolutely love On the Turning Away!!

You need to check out one more Paul Young gem: I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down. If that song doesn;t want to make you play fretless, nothin will!

I just watched the movie Midnight Run with Robert DeNiro and Charles Grodin. Don't know who to credit, but the music and playing were exceptional. Great fretless stuff. Movie soundtracks are usually a good source. Another that comes to mind is Shawn Colvin performing All Would Envy with Christian McBride on bass.

Bakithi Kumalo on Paul Simon's Graceland album. Just fabulous tone and playing.

This is some tasty stuff!! I love Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes and the bass solo in Call Me Al is awesome, but too short!

Also, saw Geddy rip it up on a fretless in concert this May and that was pretty fun!

BTW: I've never seen Geddy Lee play a MM, but I got the book about Rush's 30 years called "Countdown" and it has a pic on the back of the band mates standing in front of a large guitar rack, apparently on the stage and there are 2 MM basses right behind Geddy. Wish he would have played one when I saw them.

'Tribal Dawn' - Mick Karn.

His sound is NICE.

Can emulate that sound pretty well with a fretless ray + roundwounds.
