Went guitar shopping today.....

Well I went guitar shopping today at a few boutique style stores nere in NY and to be honest I was looking for something different, I have 2 axis and a silo special that I love to death but I was thinking maybe something different. So I went to check out the Suhrs at music zoo and they were OK, nice guitars, unfinished necks but the shape wasnt as nice as my silo and the overall bridge design and body designs of the silo appeals to me way more for a third of the price mind you! I also checked out some SG's and I was very disappointed overall but im not gonna get into that, I guess sometimes you gotta see what else is out there to really appreciate what you have...so now I have decided that to satisfy my need for variety im gonna go the AL route, now I just need to decide whether im gonna go with P90's or with single coils and put a hot rails in the bridge - im totally a bucker guy! These guitars really kick so much ass its scary, BP you could get so much more for what you guys offer in a guitar. Glad I discovered MM, viva MM!

OH and what do you guys think about the AL? p90's or single sized bucker in the bridge? thanks in advance -

Get an SSS and rout that bad boy for a real bucker in the bridge... that's what I'd do!

An AL will most likely be my next guitar (whenever that happens) and I'm 90% sure it will be equipped with MM90s

Im headed over to Royal during lunch today to check out some Als, the MM90's look awesome and I saw last nite that you could get a P90 sized bucker so that might be an option as well, but i wont route the guitar!

BP couldn't be more right! That bridge pickup is the best single coil I've played- absolutely love it! I have to keep talking myself out of replacing the single on my Morse with it.

Agreed... but if he wants a humbucker a Tele/Strat fusion doesn't really fit the bill.

It's hilarious for me to take my Sub into GC and compare it to USA J@ck$ons and Str@ts. Even if they are set up well, it just doesn't feel right. I go back to the Sub and feel like I can breathe again, if that makes any sense.

Makes sense to me. I played a friend's PRS during a little jam not along ago. Couldn't wait to get home to my balls. Not that the PRS wasn't a nice guitar, it just wasn't a great guitar.

Go for the single coil AL, then i'll say leave it completely stock. That's what i would do, because you've already got 2 Axis' to fill the humbucker need, plus the Silo Special if it is H/S/S equipped, so i'll say it again, single coil AL, and leave it completely stock.

I understand what you guys are saying about a guitar being comfy for you, that is how I felt when playing the Suhr and the Gibby models-they werent right to me - which BTW MM should make some kind if glued in neck guitar, maybe someday, but I feel equally comfortable with all their guitars, silos, axis, Als, they all have a vibe to them that is pretty consistent I feel even though they are different guitars, for some reason I get along with all of their guitars, lukes and subs as well, even the JP feels good to me I just prefer a bridge that doesnt float, and for the luke I prefer passive pups but if I had to play a luke for the nite at a gig I would be happy as hell and tear that thing up - to be honest I really like the look of the Al and the neck is cool as well, I just need to rustify it (my name is russ) so I can play my music with it

FYI I went to royal today and they had an al with singles in it, I need to test drive the MM90 Al, I think that might be the way to go, then Im gonna sell some stuff and Ill call Pete, I would love to give you the buisness Pete

Rob I was just looking at your pics, you have some great guitars, curious why you got rid of the silo special? I thought that was one fo your goto guitars, mine is bt far my favorite as of date, Oh and BTW your wife has a great smile!

I got rid of the silo special as i have another one coming in about 2 weeks- a Dargie Delight SSS w/piezo, gonna be sweet! I didnt really need the HSS Silo any longer, and you cant keep em all unfortunately.

I love her smile too!

In the same way that there is a division between amp users (tube snobs versus transistor heads), I used to be a devout user of glued-in-neck guitars ONLY. Once it was decided I needed a particular single-coil sound, I reluctantly started to use a widely distributed bolt-on neck brand. But that was as far as I would stray from the set neck variety.

Now, the only set neck guitar I have left is one that I made, and I am (like others...Rob?...are you still here?) slowly weeding out the other brand of bolt on guitar that I used to use, and have migrated to the EBMM neck. With the exception of the OLP doubleneck, I now have EBMMs on stage exclusively.

What a fool I was, but I have fixed the error in my ways. MusicMan needn't make a set neck if they don't want to - they have the perfect product now!

Suhr necks aren't unfinished. They're satin finished. I have one...they do a good job of rocking but the profile is definitely different...that being said I'd like to peep an AL one of these days...
