I say whatever gets the job done is what's good.

getting the job done at what?

spyware

viruses

trojan horses

worms

Mac may not be perfect but it has far less security problems.

Do you use MS Outlook for your email? If so, might as well call it Inlook since it has all sorts of hooks into the OS that hackers have been abusing for years.

I never understood why you would buy a x.x GHz machine then load it down with Norton Antispeed, er I mean Antivirus.

Been online since 1995, never had a virus, trojan, worm or whatever. Initially I ran McAfee, but for the past few years run the free AVG virus app and Zone Alarm (and Ad Aware for the past 5 years), and keep them updated automatically. Nothing to fear. I get your point about email progs though, and have run Eudora and Thunderbird for the past 10 years. I also agree than Norton is the worst memory sucking and crash inducing program you could ever install on a PC.

First off SCO claims that they own everything. Sco has also backed off on most of their suits (the ones that didnt get trounced in court.) THey also admitted to being bankrolled by MS in thier linux ownership litigation spree

THink about it. Who should be shocked to see MAc with a big lead? It has only 5% of the desktop market... It's users are usually very rabid and involved...
SOund familiar?

Now lets look at why I explain from time to time that if we based our marketing, design and general stuff solely on the forum we would go broke....You guys and gals represent the core but we need the whole enchilada to make it. THe diehards are like cayenne pepper.......

Chuck Ward:

That KayPro II still running, eh? They were nice machines at the time! I still remember some CP/M commands (pip for example). Do you use WordStar on there?

WordStar came with it, and a few other "cutting edge" programs, but all I used it for was the Synergy stuff. I will say it was a tough machine and I had an Anvil case made for it. My country music rig was wild at the time; a computer was never seen in a band in those days. Then there was the two Synergy's, big keyboards, the size of the Rhodes mkI and the trusted Yamaha CP70.

I was touring with Crash Craddock then, doing the usual state fairs, big clubs and halls. More than once I was referred to as country music's Wakeman, not for blistering playing but my large keyboard rig.

Then MIDI came along, and thank God, ended the need for all that stuff.

My next music computer would be the (286) Yamaha C1/20... the "20" was for the huge hard drive.:D

Man things have changed!

Add me to the chorus of people with computers screwed up by Norton.

Mac at home and windoze at work.

Started programming Basic in 1984 or 85 on an Apple II. I have used msdos and windows since they came out, whenever that was. Always liked Macs better - no viruses, worms, spyware.... my wife and kids and download almost anything and I have no worries. If I feel the need to get geeky. I can open terminal and futz around with Unix.

Bp, SCO has backed off on its claim that part of it's Unix code made it into Linux via IBM programmers (for those who don't know, IBM licenses SCO Unix and that is the basis of their proprietary Unix called AIX). SCO still does own the source code of the original AT&T Unix. I believe another group actually owns the trademark "Unix," though.

Pricky they backed off of it because it was bogus. I used to be a SCO customer and abandoned them because of their outlandish claims and litigous campaign that turned out to be bankrolled by MS to create fear and uncertainty regarding Linux.

Yup, it certainly was bogus. In fact, it may be the case that Linux code actually made it into the SCO kernel, which would effectively put SCO under the GPL. SCO didn't want to open that bottle. :)

:looks through computer:

I've never had a trojan, virus, worm, spyware, or anything like that on my computer.

Why? Because I take care of my computer and do simple checkups like you'd do on any other computer.

Macs aren't better than PCs. PCs aren't better than Macs.

:( I dont do checkups on my mac though... I never had to...

I think that when you factor the lower price and versatility of a PC vs. the Mac, it's worth the small amount of maintenance.

I can see the appeal of the Mac though. It's got a much better history than the PC. For many years it was a better system than the PC, but that just isn't the case anymore.

We are confusing Mac and PC hardware with the operating systems. From a technological standpoint, Mac OSx (FreeBSD) operating system is clearly superior to the Windows operating system. Its faster, more stable, and much more secure. It also allows much more user control over the system -- if you want it. Whether the Mac hardware is superior to PC hardware is another matter.

Lol I'll play along with the same rules that we use for different guitar manufacturers:

I prefer my Mac :D

Every day, I like this girl more and more.

I'd like to see some documentation on that. Since the release of XPSP2 I've never had any problems with any instability that wasn't a result of user error and speed is only limited by the machine's hardware.

I will say I prefer my PCs because the Macs I had were crap. :D

I honestly have to say that I find the user interface on the Mac to be the most dumbed down, brain damaged birth defect that I have ever seen . . . . but Windows isn't much better . . . and as far as stability, the Mac (at least as of OS-X) rules - the older Mac's made the Win boxes look outright stable . . . myself, still Linux . . . all the stability of a *nix platform, and whatever UI I want on it . . . not stuck with what some Mfg. rammed down my throat (and inevitably missed with . . . ).

PC hardware is mediocre at best, and now that Apple went Intel, I expect the same there . . . it's the OS platform that does it for me - Windows is a collection of bugs loosely cobbled together just well enough to sell . . .
