I'm getting a stingray again. I A/Bed my bass against a Stingray HS today at guitar center today and the stingray just flat out wins..

But I'm not sure whether to get a stingray HS or 30th. I'm looking for the normal stingray tone but also want to be able to get that old school thumpy tone. I have never played a 30th but I heard they sound diffrent than normal stingrays.

I like the HS because the S can help get me that old school sound when I want it.
But the 30th looks so good and wouldn't cost me much more, if any at all. I could trow some flats on there to be sure I get it but I would rather stick with rounds so that I could get a what I consider normal stingray sound.

What do you guys think? Any soundclips of the 30th?

Don't care about rareity, I don't plan on owning more than one.

30th looks hotter than any normal stingray but not sure of the sound.

The 30th has the stingray sound, but alot more presence. I've sold most of my stingrays and sterlings and am stocking up on 30ths. Really.

I have never regretted buying my 30th. It tracks amazingly well and has a low end gowl that my others do not have. Get the 30th now and the HS later.

the 30th sounds like a ray but with some extra bit of punch to it.

the HS sounds will give you the "normal" Stingray sound + a few more options... 4 more technically. Personally, and i dont mean to go against the grain, id get the HS - but that's just cuz im in love with the 2 PUP MMs

That's cool - my point is that today you have both choices available to you. If it turns out to be a toss-up or you can't really decide, I'd recommend you go with the 30th now.

If it turns out you made the "wrong choice" you will have the opportunity to go for/switch to the HS later because they will still be available and easier to find.

The 30th Anniversary Stingray is a "30th anniversary" model, which means it's sort of based on the Stingray that were made in 1976. I think its a safe bet that HS wasn't an option ;)

Maybe not, but how 'bout an 30th HH?:

Don't get too excited though:
we only made 2 HH 30th's HTe other is in the vault

You can hear the 30th in action in a group context at my band's myspace page www.myspace.com/loopland .
All the songs on the media player were recorded with the 30th into a Markbass LMK then DI'd to the desk.
Real punchy tone that sings like an angel!!

BAH! That dual pup 30th is the bane of my existance!

Just when I think I've killed enough people to satisfy my lust for EBMMs, they go and make something like THAT!

Just don't buy the 30th at the Baton Rouge GC! I'm still hoping beyond hope that I can afford it someday!

(Just kidding! Well, I'm not kidding about hoping to afford it, but you can buy it if you want.... :D )

HAHA, Nah I was just going to go there and pretend im intrested, like I always do but then just walk out and buy it used somewhere else. I rember seeing it there but it was all the way at the top, so I didn't bother. Its so weird that someone else one this board has been in the same guitarcenter and looked at the same bass as me. Im gonna buy one used if I do get one. But the GC in New Orleans has a LE Black/Gold HS stingray im considering... I live in between the two equally so I go to both pretty often, but mostly NO since they have a bigger selection of stuff to play. I feel bad for never purchasing a thing..
