Was "Root Beer" the actual name of a finish? If so, was it different from metalflake brown?

I think so, but it was a translucent and possibly a pre-EB that crossed over? Not sure, though, don't quote me on that. 5Stringer?

I thought you stayed away from the romanticizing of discontinued finishes threads....

No worries, to each his own! The flash on the camera actually brings out a ton more flake/sparkle in the finish compared to what it looks like from a few feet away. From across the room, the finish looks more like a darker, metallic brown - to my eyes, a low-key, funky 70's vibe.

Trans green and tort? For reals, Jay?

For real, like you said. "to each his own". Plus I think it looks great, the "trans green" really comes off more yellow so i think I can pull off the tort on there.

If it were more green, i'd have gone with a black or possibly white pearloid.

Oh and that brown, is indeed 70's and definitely has a vibe... i will grant you that.

What finish is this? Tans green or trans yellow? It'd be a big help because until today i was unaware there was actually a trans yellow at one point... Made me think the whole time i'd been calling this the wrong finish all along.

Sorry Jay, there used to be a Trans Butterscotch in the early early EBMM days that wasn't very popular, and there is currently a Trans Gold (some would call it Amber), but there has never been a Translucent Yellow. This one is another Trans Green, albeit a little on the lighter side of that finish.

Yes, Roger Manganelli. I've long idolized him, and his yellow-ey/green bass is my favorite in his collection thats the whole reason i was tracking down the name of that finish so i can have one painted the same. It'll hafta be at a shop now since they dont offer trans green anymore.

BEHOLD! The BEAUTY of Metalflake Brown!!!

Darn straight, Beth! My wife thinks this is the prettiest of my three basses. So for all of those who aren't feeling this finish, know this:

CHICKS DIG METAL FLAKE BROWN!

Believe me, once you've had kids and changed their nappies every day, metalflake brown isn't that appealing.

I nearly spit my coffee on my monitor, thanks for the laugh, Mark.

However, I changed the diapers of all three of my kids, and their end results were more trans green than metal flake brown. Then again, my kids were on formula.

Right on, Jay, you'll be known for that bass when you get it.

And not just for the look, but for the sweet sound, too!

That's exactly it! I wanted that bass back when I was just considering getting into music. Then I saw the price tag and got a considerably cheaper p-bass, now that i can play the bass, I checked out Musicman basses at a shop and fell in love with that unique sound they get. I prefer the Sterling over the StingRay for the slightly lighter body, and less on the face of the guitar, i'm not too crazy about all the chrome on the StingRay.

Thanks, I really hope i do get known for it seeing as it will be one of a kind around here, local bands are all about the black guitars it seems :S and that sure isn't black.

P.S. The more i look at that brown, the more i can deal with it. Looks good.
