I am trying to transpose a song with a lot of choir stuff to guitar, and man is it fun!
Anyone here ever tried something like this? I am still farting around with my settings trying to find the right lyrical tone...

Definitely! I think many do it subconsciously. I also am inclined to go toward trumpet tones, which was my first instrument. Also subconsciously.

Steve Vai is good at making his giutar sound like a human, you might want to try and get his tone, you'll need about 50,000 pedals but its achievable :D

The thing I am looking for is not so much to sound like it's talking, but for a lyrical tone that kinda sings out.

@ candid: I was the high note guy, and played lead trumpet in jazz ensembles in school for a while, and found myself getting burned out on it. The high school I played at, we won state marching band and jazz band titles all the time, then I ended up going to a competitive college.... I lost sight of the fact that it's supposed to be fun, not just to win a contest. It was constantly win this win that and it got old after about 5 years. After not touching it for about a year, I plan to start playing with the wind ensemble at my community college.

Understood...
Something like JP's Wishful Thinking...
Very "lyrical", at least to me...

This thread instantly made me think of the whole scene Vai often creates at the beginning of a show; those slides, the guitar 'teasing' the audience with an almost voice-like quality to the sound. I think that's as close as you can get to mimicking a human voice tonally.

Apparently Foggy's air guitar sounds JUST like a human voice ;

"joog-joog-rowl-rowl-joog-joog-widdly-widdly-widdly" :rolleyes: ;)

Hope he doesn't lose that superb talent with the arrival of the Dargie ! :D
