I can imagine it would work fine. My post was tongue in cheek - flats work great for rock.

Some of us got it... ;)

And a big +1 - I come to love the tone and feel of flats. :D

And I LOVE that they dial-in with consistency - no losing their "personality" over (a short period of) time like rounds. They get better over time.

It is only a part of the overal tone equation - amp, EQ, playing style, etc. - I would think they'd work in most places given the ability to tweak the other tonal elements.

Musician's Friend has them. That's where I ordered mine from. They should hopefully come in this week or early next. :D

Sorry, didn't know where Ashiin lives, cause it doesn't say on his profile. Didn't get them to ship to Italy, got them to ship USPS to APO. :D

Army Post Office (I think) AE (Armed Forces Europe). It's a military post office box, like shipping domestic (US). Military perks.

Ah, so you were born in Germany, but daddy is a US serviceman. Any Elvis connection at all?

Nope no Elvis connection, sorry.

Born in Germany, moved to Italy. Dad is retired Army; medical discharge (I think it's called a discharge).

I have flats on my FL 30th and I love the tone so much I went ahead and put some on my SR5.
They work great for styles that require a nice deep tone, like rock, salsa (latin in general, (think babybass)), jazz, soul, country...etc...etc.

It takes a couple weeks of serious playing for them to mellow out, and if you don't like the tacky feel of the flats you can get some string lube stuff to make them a little faster.

OK I'm in, but Group 2 or 3's???

I know, I know it's a matter of personal preference. But never having used flats on sr4 I was wondering from those of you who use em or have used them in the past which guage would suit a real fat funk fingerstyle? So what do y'all think II"S or III's??

I could only find one set of EB 5-string flats, is that all there is?

I went with group III's because I felt they were closer to the original gauge of the slinkys that come on the bass, and I love the factory setup so I didn't want to have to tweek anything other than the truss.

Also, III's were the only one's I could find in Korea, until this week when I found some II's. I also saw some of the new inked straps! And a 4 string trans. snot green with a tort. pg! It was so awesome.

I have some Group 3's as well. They have a nice solid fundamental sound, thumps I guess. In terms of flexibility (cuz everytime ppl say 'tension' there's a big controversy :p), they feel just like Super Slinkies, maybe a bit (just a bit) tighter.

For those with Group 2's, how taut are the strings?

FWIW, the 5 string set is basically a set of Group IIIs with an added .130 low B.

They have more than enough tension that I can dig in without fretting out, but I can still bend them and vibrato is not a problem.
