Dan, the guitar is trans red with maple fretboard, SSS and hardtail. It's in the "Sticky- For Sale"-thread, page 23.
Also: It has a 6 bolt neck plate and Schaller M6 tuners.
OK - I got it!
Seems in the early record-keeping we used some "suffixes", such as "a" or "b". The reason: duplicate serial numbers. The Sunburst Silhouette I pulled up earlier had a "b" suffix, and the the 89091 with the "a" suffix is - you guessed it - a Trans Red Silhouette Tremolo HSS with a maple neck. To top it off, it was shipped Strings & Things in the U.K. which only makes sense ... this research stuff has a learning curve attached to it, sorry for the confusion! Oh, and BTW, that makes your guitar's production date 4/4/89 and the body would be made of alder.

Louder, your Axis was completed on 10/11/96. The finish is Trans Gold, though it probably looks more like amber.

Your guitar left the factory on 9/09/03 on its way to Hanover Strings in New Hampshire, where, I am guessing, you bought it! Nice Piece!
This guitar was on their wall on the Scion Tour in 2005 when I visited their store. Check it out: http://www.ernieball.com/scion/main.html Click "Check the map", then click on the dot that says "Concord/Hanover" then scroll to image # 7. Your guitar, before it was your guitar, is in the middle of the screen. How cool is that!!

Er .. ahem, this is actually the thread for guitar serial #'s (the bass thread is under Music Man Basses).
However, since you asked .... and since you're here .. your bass was completed on 03/30/87 and sent to a store I had never heard of before .. a store called Gus Zoppi Music in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Apparently they are still around but have not carried MM for quite some time. At any rate, your bass is showing as a 2-Band EQ in Translucent Teal with a rosewood fretboard.
I wonder if there is a real guy named Gus Zoppi? He probably hangs out with Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jethro Tull, and Marshall Tucker.

Brent, it is most definitely Translucent Blue - and the build date is 8/19/93 . It was originally shipped to our beloved German distributor. Interesting that it winged its way back to the States!
