A little eclectic philosophy:

"Everybody creates his own future by what he acquires and what he discards. Amassing, whether of things or of people, means diminishing spirituality and individuality. Two is company, three is a crowd. Relying on spiritual exchange instead of crowds of things or people opens the door for real emotions and contact."

I interpret this to mean: Though the audiences may not be as large as the latest trendy bands, there is a connection being made on a more intimate and genuine level, even a spiritual level. There's a difference (as I'm sure Steve knows only too well) between transient mass hysteria and genuine respect, and each brings its own rewards.

And continuing, from DÀ CHÙ, 1500 BC:

"The noble one knows many former words and deeds and proceedings, in order to accumulate his virtue."

Yup, that sounds like Steve. Quite a repertoire he's amassed. Maybe there's a time to stop reaching for the golden ring, and become the golden ring.

Well I was listening to Radio 1 in the UK yesterday and they played the new JoJo(?) single which samples Toto's Africa....quite heavily! So they guys may not be getting the direct air play they deserve but at least the stuff is still being heard in other ways

Did they credit it on air?

My guess, with it being R1 is that they didn't mention anything about it being a sample. They seem to have forgotten that music was produced before the 1990's

I must be getting old, I'm a Radio 2 guy these days

In fairness to JK & Joel(?) one of them, i dont know which did mention it sampled Africa by Toto and went on to say he loved the original song so they get a thumbs up from me! I was trying to hold my phone to the speaker in the car leaving a voice mail message to Mrs Hart so she could hear here beloved on the radio....i would have been buggered if the rossers had seen me but thats the sacrifice I was willing to make!

I pretty much switched over to R2 after that though in order to prevent my ears from being tarnished by the Arctic Monkeys though!

I tried to link to the original article and it's gone from the site.

My view on popularity is that being popular usually means selling your soul. So f**k em. Toto make brilliant records and the show this year in Newcastle was simply one of the best concerts I have ever been to....full stop. Don't let the morons get you down Luscious.

It seems to me that record companies are quite happy to have vacuous muppets, build them up for a year or two , sell loads of records, but dump them as soon as they might actually start asking for more money, only to promote the next vacuous muppet that comes along.

I get to play ALOT of other stuff live so I just swill down a big gulp of "jazz juice" wait for the intro of africa and just smile. hahahaha Its been good to me but I was 19 when I recorded Hold the Line, I am now 49.. ya dig. hahaha
Hope you guys are all havin a good day and I will check in soon.
It doesn mean alot to have your support and for the people that hate my ****..well sorry. There is other stuff out there for ya. I dont like everything out there either. haha

What? You mean your musical tastes have changed a bit over the last 30 years? :D

Hell, I play original stuff with my band that was written years ago and I get tired of some of it... and nobody's even heard this stuff! :D I always try to 'get into it' when playing live though, because every song deserves its due.

Lucious, man, you're a gem because you've not only made your own music, but you've played the hell outta other folks' stuff and made them look good every time. Who else has a track record like that?
