I just got the latest mix of the new album my band recorded about a month ago. All that's left is the final mastering.

Here's my current favorite track. It was recorded with my original 03 HHp Bongo wearing EB flats into my Low End True Voice preamp.

This is as close as I've gotten to the tone in my head. Of course, this bass makes getting a good tone very easy. :D

Nice, I enjoyed the track.

Good and funky, good tasteful basslines that complement the song well, and the Bongo cuts through, good production too. Killer band as well, I'd like to hear more ...

Very nice! That first tune sounded great even on my crappy computer speaker at work. I'll listen to the others at home later. Is this the same lineup as the blues band I saw a few years ago?

Hey, Gary. I don't know if you saw Jason and I with Luke, or not. We've played with him on and off for the last 20 years. Great players, and no drama to worry about.

The fretted Bongo was set with the neck mag pickup favored (about 80%) and about a 65/35 mag/piezo blend. The EQ was close to flat with a slight low-mid boost. And, I had the Bass Mute engaged.

The TV preamp only has a tone knob and a level knob. I had the tone set at about 85% so it cut out the ultra highs without sounding muffled. Nothing says heaven to me more than flats with an extremely transparent amp with some nice warmth to it.

Caged Bird is, indeed, the same tune that I posted when we did a quick demo version in the studio at the end of January. That version was the second take of the demo sessions. It definitely has a slightly more agressive sound to it. It changes a bit each time we play it. Having played with these guys for so long, we can communicate pretty well visually, so dynamics are fun to play with. The studio is no different since everything was recorded live. The only overdubs are congas and vocals to replace the scratch track recorded with the band.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm pretty pleased with the results.

Man....that piezo gives such an earthy tone! Almost double bass sounding but with punch! Nicely done!

I just listened to all three at home, and they sound great. Jason, I'm sure I saw you play with Luke, though I think I also saw you with another drummer once or twice. It really sounds like you've been playing together a long time. Cool tunes and very tight. Let us know when the CD is ready.
