Hello, this is my first post. I just signed up and couldn't find a thread on restoration. If there is a thread will one of you please direct me to it?

I just purchased a '76 or '77 SR (I'll find out tomorrow when I pop the neck), and at some point the original sunburst finish was hacked off with a wood chisel. The perpetrator then dipped or dribbled nitrocellulose over it and hung it to dry in the garage-- there are little flecks of grit in the finish. It smells great, but it was a pretty poor job, and I'm considering having it redone if I can find a craftsman who understands the nuances of restoring a vintage piece. I would prefer someone familiar with the "relicing" process. I live in San Diego and would like to find someone nearby, if possible.

Thanks in advance,

John Frazier

Sort of close to you, Steve Soest in Orange County is truly the man. If he doesn't do restoration work any more he will know the guy to refer you to. (714) 538.0272

Thank you. I sent him a note this evening, and I'll call in the morning. According to his website he's still actively involved in repair and restoration. I'll keep everyone posted, and if anyone knows how to post a picture to this place I'll put up a shot of 2803.

Thank you. I'll check both of them out after I get out of here. This place is addictive.
