I find with a smaller pick you need to concentrate more on relaxing the grip and letting the stiffness and quickness of the pick do the work.

Yes, that's what I'm finding too. Takes a bit of doing after being so used to those big ole Fenders. Will try the XLs that Beej is sending... maybe a good compromise.

As I usually reccomend when the topic of Jazz III's come up....check out dunlop Jazztone picks (model number R205). I used the the jazz III's for a long time before I found these and haven't gone back since. They are a bit thicker and have a much rounder/thicker attack and puts a little more girth into single notes. They make you work harder for the snappiness that jazz III's can give you but it's easy to adjust. Unfortunately....they are a bit more slippery than jazz III's but I've learned to adjust. The thing that sold me on them initially was that they have more mass than jazz III's.

Pete, who makes those cool picks??????

Frank,
PM me with your address... I'll send you mine. I picked up a dozen of the cool picks, but can't bond with them. They're a little thinner than the Dunlops.

I've been going back and forth between the Dunlop Ultex, "normal" picks, (love the grip feel and attack) and Jazz III's and just found out that they're coming out with an Ultex version of the Jazz III... Best of both worlds. :D

Fred is the pick pimp

He's been very kind to send me all kinds of different ones to try out at his expense. Hoping to do the same and pass on the favour.

Beej,
My pick pimping days should be winding down. I keep coming back to the ones I originally started with. Dunlop Ultex or Jazz III Blacks.

What did you think of the v-picks? I still laugh at myself for buying those things...

I felt like the "Kid from Brooklyn" when he went to Starbucks for coffee... If you've never seen that rant, it's hilarious!!! [nomedia="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPdF5BUcP-s"]YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.[/nomedia]

He's got a new "premium" pick that's $20 each, plus $3 for shipping!!!!

later!

Black Jazz III's or Purple Dunlop Mediums...those are my weapons of choice. Ihave some stubbies too but I'm not enamoured on those...they;re just no that comfortable.

The Jazz III's take some getting used to but they'll definitely cheat you up a bunch on the precision and speed tip once you get the gist of what they're doing...

Hah! I feel the same way ... tried all kinds of stuff and still stick with the Jazz IIIs.

The v-picks were neat, but I just couldn't get into 'em. They do allow you to hold them with much less of a grip, though- that much is very cool. My hand was super relaxed using 'em, but they don't quite do it for me. I'm passing 'em off to Candid along with the XLs ... maybe they can find a good home there :)

I love the Jazz IIIs.... i used to use the tortex...but once i switched, i noticed my prescision, speed, and articulation was better. i cant even hold any other pick now.. they just feel weird and floppy in my hand.

Played quite a bit yesterday, and after a couple hours the Jazz III started feeling a little more comfortable. No question at all that my playing was cleaner, more articulate. But I don't 'feel them' yet. Will keep working on it. Also, maybe the larger XL size that Beej has generously offered to send me may be the ticket.

Cause of this forum I switched over to JAZZ II. And I love using them. Does anyone know the difference between the JAZZ II and JAZZ III.

Thanks,
Scott

I was skeptical when Guitar One came out w/ their spread on the Jazz III, but the fact that JP, amoung others, sang it's praises caused me to get a pack of red and black. Man was that the best thing I ever did.

I was playing w/ regular-shaped tortex ones and these did in fact improve my speed, articulation etc...I tried going back to the tortex after a month or so and they felt so huge and clunky. I still use them for strumming acoustic guitars though.

I never thought I would warm up to a smaller pick ever since I tried one my brother gave me years ago----a Clayton tear drop pick that was narrower and not as stiff as a Jazz III. I couldn't take to that one at all. I'm stocking up on Jazz IIIs but would also like to try their new grippier and more durable ones.
