And as I was taking stock of my little collection of basses I realized that I don't have a blue bass.

Then I did the unthinkable. I ordered a blue... Ricken:eek:  backer!

Fortunately I snapped out of it and got a hold of Pete Dubaldo.

Mr. D put me back on the straight and narrow with a 110-L5-5M-01 (that's maple SR4H with MHS for the English speaking world). He even knocked $100 off the already great price because of my drop dead good looks and hunky physique (but if you ask him he will say that it was a military discount).

Soooo...the deed is done and the deposit has been placed.
C'mon Blue Dawn! I need the shades coz the sparkles are so bright.

Thanks Pete and thanks EBMM Team!

I think the wait for a Rickenbacker is even longer than for an EBMM. At the risk of being slaughtered I own 2 Rickenbacker guitars & they're gorgeous, but I've no idea what their basses are like.

I thought I wanted a 4003 for the longest time. I ordered one, got it, and hated it from day one. Except in the studio because the sound is clean.....ie....flat. Therefore, I could manipulate the tone during mix down. I never could get anything decent out of the E string in a live setting. So, after I finally wised up and bought an SR4HH, I sold the Ric to buy a 30th Ann. 4 SR's later and I have no need to play any other bass. However, I did play a Bongo for the first time today.....

Nice turn about syciprider !

Well nothing wrong with a Rickenbacker imho, but this is a EB forum... hence the tiny font and illegible color hehehe
Congrats! I'm wondering how a clear pickguard with a cut out of Chun Lee underneath would look, especially with the sparkle burst going on. :D

Good idea about hiding the Ric post

Good idea about Chun Li! The blue would be a good match! Kikko-Ken!

No mo' Rickys!!

I'll never own another one!

If for no other reason than they way their reps acted towards us at the NAMM show.

To say they were a shower of bastards would be putting it mildy!

Good thing for me, the EBMM booth was full of friendly and fun loving people.

My first bass ever was a '74 Ricky. I sold it on consignment and took the $500 I got for it and took a chance on a new bass MM was putting out at the time, the Sabre.

Man was that smart! My fav bass of all time, and a part of me.

awesome Ritchie, I needed a new phrase

:D

now back to why a Blue Dawn is better, or just more gooder, or just different by way of being superior to a Blue Glo-thingy bass

Well, lessee

Ease of setup:

MM wins this handily. You don't have to unstring the bass to adjust intonation.

Playing comfort:

MM has contours. And thumbrests.

Color:

MM has sparkles

Cust Serv:

I can PM BP anytime...............

Quality:

I can't speak for Ricks but all my MMs past and present were consistently well made and are worth the asking $$$.

I still wonder why I GAS for a Rick though. I wish I could just rent one, find out what it's about, then return it.

I just sold my Ric for a Stingray with 2 humbuckers. It was the absolute BEST move I've ever made.

The Ray is a much more versatile bass. I like the feel of the neck much better.

Ever since MM came out with the double humbucker Rays I've wanted one. I'm so glad that I finally got one. I'll never regret selling the Ric to get it either, since I feel I got a much better bass.

I've never played an EBMM bass or a Ric bass, but in fairness to Rickenbacker, their CEO John Hall is every bit as active and helpful on the Ric forums as Sterling Ball is on here. I own guitars from both companies but sadly at the moment basses from neither.
