Hello all,

So, i'm new here and currently a Gibson player, more specifically, an SG player, i own 2, an SG Standard and an SG X, both with Bareknuckle pickups...

Now, i've always been pretty satisfied with my guitars, but i don't think i've ever seen and guitar and gone - WOW!!!!! Until i saw this one - http://musicmanbassman.fotopic.net/c1130714.html (although i'd like a hardtail)

So, go on, sell the Axis to me!

The only problem is, that no shops or any people in the amount of bands i know have one in and it's a tall order asking a shop to get in a specific guitar worth over a grand just for you to try out.

Now, i play this sort of music - MY BAND through a 5150 II and mesa 4x12 recto cab

Any help, much appreciated, thank you all in advance!

Hi,

First it would be helpful to know what part of the world you are in, that helps with locating a axe, second on this sight you are going to get that the axis will blow away your SG, and it will, I am a converted music man player and would not go back to any others, I sold my Gibsons to get more the playability tome and feel of an Axis is superior, now how to you test one?:) There is an Axis hardtail for sale in the guitars for sale thread it is a fantastic axe take a peek.

Hello Adam
SGs are among my favourite guitars. Much underrated, though all the ones I have played have been well "played in"...my experience of factory fresh Gibsons has been less positive.
If you tell us where you live we might be able to point you in the direction of a shop where you could try an Axis.....I'm assuming you won't part with your money just because Axis fans praise the guitar.
Ah...clicked on your link and saw Manchester....what about Sounds Great in Stockport??
I'm not able to sing the praises of an Axis as I've never played one either.

Thanks Andy :)

It's probably best for me to try Sounds Great again as Dawsons are well arsey and Sound Control is going down the pan! I work a few doors down from them, and unless i can put down a deposit, it a no no :(

Will the Axis still have the chunky big sound of my SG?

Where is Tim Osullivan when you need him, yes it will and it will also stay in tune.
Hopefully Tim will see this thread, he is in England and can tell you way more about the Axis than I can, now if you want to talk about other models, wellll:D

Adam, thats just a bog standard Axis SuperSport, they're all at least as nice as that one
and they're so consistent in quality from guitar to guitar.I've never played or owned a MM guitar and bass that was less than stellar.no amount of
pics and words will ever convey to you just how tight these guitars are nor how beautiful those MM necks feel in the hand.
You owe it to yourself to go try one
then you'll buy one
Komp

edit: I see youre in the UK>My blue pearl hardtail is for sale.I've just gotten an Axis mm90 Sport and I want the funds to get a Luke or a JP6.My guitar is a couple of pages back in the for sale thread

Tim's out gigging, where all good musos should be on a Saturday night. He's a big Axis fan....he has 5 (though some of them are EVHs), He's based in the London area

Hi and welcome, Adam.

At the risk of sounding like mere hype, listening to your music cut, I think you'd love the Axis. I think it would cut through a lot better with more punch, and the playablity factor alone would floor you. 'Course not every neck is for everyone, but the worst EB neck I've played was better than the best of other brands. That's no BS, though it is only my opinion.

Hang around and chances are something will pop up. If not here, elsewhere. But this is a great place to learn about these sweet instruments.

Btw, my son plays a newish SG. He says he likes it, but he's always complaining about it too: too neck heavy, massive frets, saddles grew burs in the first 3 months, etc. I know he wants to grow Balls like his dad. :D He's forever asking me about them, and I know that even though I'm not s'posed to know, he's hinting for me to give him one of mine. If it's any consolation, their both in my will for him. But he's too good a kid to entertain that option for very long.. plus he's too impatient ;) . Sooo, he'll have to get his own.

I say, go for it. You won't regret it.

Hope you manage to try one soon Adam........someday I hope to try one out myself, I hear very good things about them.....if only they didn't all seem to have those funny wavy fronts!
