All EBMM guitars look much better in person when you can see the build quality and the beautiful finishes. New ones are the best representative samples of what this company is all about. Of course, if it's used, the set-ups or lack thereof are going to reflect the previous/current owner's tastes, as I'm sure you understand. Straight from the factory, they're generally amazing in terms of playability.

Axis Super Sport guitars can be amazingly beautiful, and pictures often do not do them justice. This, I think, is very much the case of all EBMM guitars with figured tops. One simply has to see these guitars to believe how amazing they look. Then, when you put your hands on one to play it, look out! The Axis Super Sport sings, my friend. It growls. It roars. This guitar is so amazingly versatile. One might not believe how versatile the guitar is. After all, it only has two pickups, but when you plug it in, try all the positions on that 5-position pickup selector. You'll see what I mean.

Another thing that's great about the Axis Super Sport is that you can get the piezo pickups, which will give you an amazingly beautiful "acoustic" sound. I don't know if that's useful to you, but it's a nice benefit, I think. :D

Sorry if I don't know the geographic layout of the UK, but if your anywhere close, try

Machinehead Music, Guitar Shop - Where service counts!

Shop is owned by forum member DaveB. Good guy and a true MM fan. He usually has stock and can get you what you need. You might also want to pick up a 20th anniversary silo if there are any left in stock for that HH vibe you're looking for.

And hey AdamB - DaveB...........maybe you're long lost relatives and can get the family discount. :D

I think the Axis is a great blend between the Les Paul tone and a Strat feel on the neck. It's way more comfortable to play, and it's got great humbucker tone for days.

After playing EBMM, I can't touch a Gibson. They feel like playing on a tree trunk.

Adam never mind if I read things more carefully I would have seen:) there is a red hardtail in excellent condition for sale, killer neck and just beautiful, and a great price, just check the guitars for sale threadtowards the end pages

Thanks again everyone, great as usual!

I saw that Red Axis in the for sale thread, it is beautiful, and with the dollar being so low compared to the pound, it's a true bargain

But, i can't ignore the blue i fell in love with! I have 2 red guitars already too, ha!

I'll pm that guy now :)

I think that red one is sold already. My friend and I (for my friend) both tried to email him and didn't hear back.

Hi Adam, hope you're enjoying it here :)

Sounds Great only carry a limited number of EBMM guitars. The last time I was in there, there was just the one Luke.

There are some pretty good ones mentioned around, including Guitars 4 you in Ashbourne (they've got a good number in). I've also had dealings with Micro Music in Liverpool, who were really helpful and Back Alley Music in Chester.

I saw a purple HH Axis Sport in there yesterday (later model with solid colours and no pickguard) it was quite a good price but it's not exactly the colour that you're after.

PM me if you like, I can give you more info on it.

Hello! I am sure the Axis will not dissapoint. The tone is somewhere in the Les Paul / SG area but with a load more welly! One major reason they are better than an SG is they balance perfectly. I have 5 of them! The necks are superb and they are very well built. All of my guitars have fallen off stands at one point and all tell the tale, where as an SG would probably snap in half! If you can get down to West London (near Heathrow) you can play any of my guitars and try them out. Let me know.

Cheers Tim and Jimmy!

I really need to get my arse in gear and down to a music shop that has one in, as long as i like the feel, i can start on my quest to find the one (colour, ha) that's right for me! If it's got more welly, well, that's only a good thing :)

Rad,

It maybesold, I PM the guy and he got right back with me, but due to some unforseen circumstances, I had to pass, try PM ing him, he responded pretty quick to mine, and if he did already sell someone got a great axe.:)

There's a couple of nice axis sports on ebay for dirt cheap bro. If I didn't require 24frets I'd be all over one of them :D

Probably can't add anything that hasn't been said, but from a feel perspective you can't compare an Axis with an SG. That's not a slam on either one. It's just a fact. They feel different.

I'm not much of an SG guy myself and that's mainly because of the feel issue. So this one isn't a fair fight for me. Axis wins hands down. A really nice thing about the designs of the Music Man guitars is the compact headstock and the guitars that are not any longer than they need to be. They really do feel nice and compact. I actually had somebody ask me if my EVH was a reduced scale guitar because it felt so short and easy to handle.

From a tone perspective, you'll have to judge. The DiMarzios in the Axis are rock solid. I'd say they are a bit hotter than the average modern Gibson pickup and a bit more Strat sounding on the clean channel. But they are nice warm and articulate and they crunch nicely while handling high gain better than the Gibson pickups on any day of the week.

I understand the idea of wanting a Gibson just to say you've got one in your collection. It makes sense to me. Their history speaks for itself. But the Axis is really a rock solid guitar and has "future classic" written all over it.

Good luck.

Cheers man, using bareknuckle pickups at the moment though as i don't like the stock gibson ones.

Bit worried about the whole active thing though, hope they don't sound like EMGs

Don't think Axis guitars have active pickups, just DiMarzio humbuckers
