So i recently decided that, based on reviews, the features, and just the awesome look of it, i was going to save up all my pennies and buy an EBMM SR4 HH in Black Cherry Burst and a black pickgaurd. I had been looking around for about 3 months, and i was always looking in the >500 - <1000 range, but i could never settle with anything. The SR4 HH caught my eye and after looking it over i said to myself if i had the money for this i'd get in a heart beat. Then it occured to me i could probably muster up the money and judging from a lot of the comments i've seen it would be well worth every bit. I'm a young musician and i've been playing for about 4 years with the same entry level (in every sense of the term) peavey p-bass rip off and with the fact that i'm now playing with 3 different groups it was time to upgrade to something with better in tone and quality and just more versatile. But i digress, on with my question.

I had been looking around online but because of my location (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), there weren't a lot of places online that would ship here either at all or without costing an arm and a leg for shipping. So i marched down to on of the two guitar shops that sell EBMM gear and ordered it up. I was told, however, that the waiting period for it to come in would br 4-6 months!

Is this the standard? What's stranger yet was that after i ordered it i phoned up another Edmonton store that has EBMM stuff and asked how long it would take to order and they said 2 weeks to a month. Who was right? I'd hate to think i didn't order it from the place where i would've gotten it quickly. And if the 4-6 month wait is standard what is it that takes so long? Are they making my bass specifically for me?

Thanks for any answers you have, i'd really appreciate them

I think I remember Big Poppa saying that every instrument is ordered by a dealer and that EBMM doesn't make shelf stock. So, in effect, your instrument is being made for you. And 4-6 months is about right for the wait on a new instrument. The quality of these instruments and the care that goes into their construction generates their high demand; and the wait is very well worth it. Congrats! You'll love the Stingray!

yup, as far as i know unless a dealer has the bass in his shop matching your set up ie colour, neck and stuff he will have to order it.Which will take 4/6 months.
I may be wrong on this but from what i read here it seems right.
But never mind there is lots to do while you wait like

1) wonder if the black cherry is really your first choice

2) wonder what it would look like with a tort pick gaurd

3) matching head stock or not???????

4) H, HS, HH

the list goes on........and by the time your new bass comes you will be ready to order a second one :D

by the way i love your colour and the HH set up:cool:

oh and welcome!!

It's going to be well worth the wait, that time frame seems about right, but you could get lucky and get it sooner if you pray to the StingRay God and/or wish really hard. The HH sound is killer and so is EBMM quality. Customer service is tops as well. The guys on this board are very helpful and really know their stuff. Enjoy!

I ordered a Stingray from Dubaldo music on January 18th, 07........... It left the factory on Wenesday May, 25th, 07, it's on it's way to Dubaldo's, then on to me.

So, my bass took right at 4 months. And yes, that bass was made especially for ME!!!

Welcome to the forums, Benindetto! From my experience with ordering, that seems to be the normal time frame.

It's definitely worth the wait.

Welcome to the forum. The wait may seem long, but it flys by. Your first one is always the hardest to wait on. Nice choice on the set up by the way.

Thanks for all the input. Looks like i've got some waiting to do.
But it will no doubt be worth it
In the mean time a friend of a friend is selling a SUB for 300$ so i might pick that up to tide me over :)
For that price why the hell not
As for what next, i think a Bongo 5 string is in order
That is if i can scrounge up the cash for it
Anyway thanks again
You all seem pretty rad on this forum, i think i'll stick around
:D

Mine was about 3 months to the day in 2005, and I'm in Ontario. It's hard I know, but well worth waiting for. Waiting for something that is done right is worth it. And if I recall correctly that is the time frame I was given then as well. Welcome from another Ray enthusiast.

Welcome! Congrats on the SR4HH. :D A SUB at $300 is a great deal. Jump on it (the deal, not the bass)!

adouglas' LE Bongo had a turn around time of 3 months, too.

It took 6 months for me to recieve my Stingray bass in 2002, I ordered it in November 2001 and got it in the beginning of May 2002...and oh, it was like christmas times 10 when I was 5 years old...the dealer told me that it had to be the prettiest stingray they had ever seen...i did get the burnt apple with a matching head stock which is like the black cherry burst except with sparkles in the finish...girls love the sparkles :p

at the time i had been playing stingrays and sterlings for about a year in music stores deciding if it was the right bass for me...and 5 years later, musicman basses are the only basses that matter to me...the tone, playability, and look...

just wait, within 3 years you'll be owning or at least wanting every option and color of musicman bass you can get your hands on

Welcome! I agree with Chilix in the post above. I have 6 basses from a different brand, (all are from the same company) and I'm still stoked with the MM I bought last fall! Both companies are on par build wise, but sound wise there is a huge difference. I'm looking forward to another MM, either new or used.

One good thing about the wait time is when it gets to your dealer, you'll be the first one (outside the factory and dealer) to DNA it. It won't be hangin' on a wall for everyone to paw on it!

definitely...my 2002 still smells the same as it did new (and I get high off of it)...and that is after playing almost every day since new and over 150 gigs including bars and churches and fade in the finish...too bad the original hard plastic case didn't last...i'm on case #3 :p

Welcome, from Edmonton as well!!

Where are you buying from? Avenue has some nice Ray's but maybe not exactly what you want. I also think that new shop West End Rock shop is a dealer.

I have a SUB that I really like, for $300! Go for it! Excellent bass.

Awesome, another edmontonian! I'm actually from out in Spruce Grove like 15 minutes west but who's counting. What part of edmonton are you from lomky?

I ordered my Ray from Avenue. I checked out all the places that carry MM stuff like mother's music and The West End Rock Shop and none of them even had an HH set up. I decided to order it from Avenue because they're a little more personable.

Another question occured to me that perhaps you fine folks could answer. Do all EBMM basses ordered come with a case? I'd hate to shell out even more cash for a case.

All new MusicMan basses come with hardshell case :) They're magical - I mean they have to be, to be able to house a Bongo OR a Sterling in the same case!

Fear not :)

Except for the SUB's, no case.

I'm from the Grovenor area (Central west endish)

We are playing a couple of shows in the next bit here, check my weblink. The one on Sunday is All Ages at a new venue on Stony Plain Road. Come say hello if you decide to make it out.

Avenue Guitars are good people!

Good luck!!
