Apparently ( and it's usually done with Strats) because they feel they can make more money by "parting out" the guitar than by selling it whole.
No idea why that would be the case, but if you're bored you can explore the silly prices people are asking for "genuine" '60s backplates, knobs etc (how can the buyer ever tell)
Why do it to an EBMM....no idea. I assume a standard strat neck wouldn't fit on a Silhouette?? This guy even says he has the neck etc available.
Maybe it's because new EBMMs cost a fortune but don't seem to hold their value very well, so he's trying the bits & pieces approach.

That is so retarded! He must have taken it apart for no apparent reason. Maybe there' a defect with the neck or trem and he's trying to con someone into buying each individually. Btw what color is that?

The colour is Lavender Pearl.

I understand the F@nder thing, but the thing is, you can't buy stock parts for EBMMs!

Exactly. So whoever buys this will need to buy the neck from him, and put it all back together again.

Does a Warmoth neck fit an EBMM??

I don't know what his master plan is, I guess he just thinks he wouldn't get much for a secondhand SS and is trying this system to increase the overall price. Not everyone on EBay is clever (though maybe we should see what it sells for first!)

thanks foggy! andy you're mean =p.
You're right foggy, which means he must have
a) bought a brand new silospec and destroyed it for no reason
b) bought a used or defected silospec and decided to sell the body as if it were perfect.
I think it's retarted becuase I couldn't imagine a better neck to put on a silo, with the exception of another eb neck and to get one of those you'd have to destroy another ball!!
The problem with this guy is he only has half a ball.

....but he says in the ad he has the neck and other bits available?? It all makes little sense and frightens me.

Well, it's obivous that you should buy it so that you can swap out your guitar's body during a set. It's quicker than just grabbing another guitar off the rack.

I agree it doesn't make sense andy. Why'd you tell me it was "mystic metallic mauve"? =p.
So far Nick has the best explanation.

I think the same guy had a JP body on ebay a few weeks ago. Not sure how he comes across these bodies. Like you all have said, they must be parting out a guitar with some major defect elsewhere (on the neck)...

This is rather common in the vintage market, especially with Gibsons. You can't believe what some people will pay for an original pickguard from a '59 Les Paul...or a truss rod cover, or pickup surrounds, etc. A pair of original PAF pickups from any '57-'60 Gibson could fetch over $10,000 easily, if they're unaltered.

Just to get some perspective on this,

I've not really been following the used prices for Silhouette Specials on Ebay stateside lately. What are they going for ?

Because surely whatever the body goes for he's going to want a similar fee for the neck and then the trem on top of that.?

Surely we're already looking at $7-800 ?

And then you've either got to spend your time bolting the guitar back together and setting it up. Or if you're not screwdriver savvy you've got to pay a luthier to do it for you right ?

And of course unlike buying a complete, working, set up guitar you've got no guarantee that the things going to go together harmoniously in the end anyway.

Maybe it's just me but it doesn't seem like any bargain, and also quite risky.

Lovely coloured body though..
