That's exactly what I thought when I first saw Petrucci play his double neck several years ago. Then I thought, well 8/4 is the same ratio as 4/2, so I guess it makes sense.

OT a bit.... Quite a few years ago, I had a 12 string acoustic guitar. I thought the guitar sounded great, but damn if I could keep it in tune very long. It seemed like I was tuning it more than playing it. I got fed up with it and sold it, and haven't really played a 12 string since.
Most folks probably don't have experience with these babies, but I was curious if the 12 string portion stays in tune as well as the 6 strings. I would assume they have locking tuners as well.

I think two 6s would have been better balanced like the OLP version
