I got home @ 1800 and found a big box @ my doorstep.

Let's check...Yup!

The dogs were very excited for some reason. Maybe they know that a very special bass has arrived.

Ah, that slightly chemical smell when you first crack the case open.

This my first Bongo so my opinions about it will weigh heavily on how it compares to a Ray.

My Bongo is ALOT lighter than my Ray.

It sounded very modern and bright. I kinda see why some folks note that they hear the electronics and not the bass itself. This maybe so IF one were looking for a conventional, vintage bass tone. But once the user gets over that paradigm, the Bongo makes perfect sense as the unique voice of a new breed of basses.

The piezo. I am glad I asked for this option. It just made it so versatile. I can have volume and presence without shaking the house loose by favoring the piezo just a tad.

The humbucker. Not as in your face as a Stingray 4. But not as clanky either. It seems to have a more balanced output across the highs, hi mids, low mids and lows. IMO, a 4H Ray has a dip in the low mids.

The pre. I love it! This thing overdrives the crap out of my SVT even at moderate levels. I have the mid dimed, the piezo favored a bit, a tiny bass boost and slight treble cut. This bass is the bane of pre amp tubes everywhere!

I might have to be a PITA to Pete and change my Blue Dawn to a Bongo...

BP, thanks to you and your team for coming up with everything. The concept of the Bongo, the idea of the Dargie and then putting em together into one beautiful and powerful bass!:)

Bongos sound great with flats. I'd keep using 'em but I don't like the feel on the fingertips.

That is one smokin' bass! Glad it is home.

Have you tried it with flats? I wonder what that will sound like?

I've got EB flats on my 5H Bongo Dargie and it sounds phenomenal. The piezos on my HHp Bongo love the EB flats, too. So, I think you would really enjoy what you have to work with using flats.

I highly recommend you give 'em a shot.

Oh yeah, I love how the neck splits the difference between the Sterling and the Stingray. The radius, which IMO gives it a feel that is closer to the 'Ray, is nice as well. But I prefer the barenekkid Ray neck. Of course, all I had up to this point are Stingrays so it's probably just a muscle memory thing for me.

I got a few sets given to me by Scott himself. I'll let 'er keep the Slinkies for a week just so my ears can get used to them and then if I still feel the need I'll switch er up.
