I was thinking this would just die away and we'd all move on, mostly, but then there's this:

Subject: Post this if you like - call me

"I have no desire or will I get involved with the current beef between MM and Dude. At this point I would like to say a few things about Dude.

I met Dude when he started carrying Lakland in 1999. I was impressed with his knowledge of the instrument – bass, and I mean all basses not just the ones he sells. A man who has this much hands on knowledge of the instruments and is willing to use it to help customers get what they need is extremely rare. Yes he is opinionated – most people who are great in their field are. The Pit has been an extremely great place for Lakland to get information out and handle customer inquiries. I don’t post because I don’t always watch the forum and I don’t want someone to ask a question (to me) and have it be missed. Most of the important questions that Dude hasn’t been able to answer (not many at all), he emails me directly and we take care of it. I’m amazed at how well he handles covering all these forums(not just mine).

Dude introduced me to Darkstars /Bi-Sonics, which will change the face of Lakland over the next decade. When I asked him about them – he had a sample out within a few days. He hooked me up with Fred Hammon. My point is that Dude has his ear to the market – he knows what’s going on. I did have a few other friends help with the Darkstar/Bi-Sonic situation (Chris Solberg for example) but Dude was the catalyst.

Steve has also introduced Lakland to the J-Retro preamp. This amazing product made by John East in England, really helps our customers go active if that's what they need. Again a break-through product recognized by the Dude first.

We (Lakland) have used the pit to pick colors for our line and get other opinions for features and they were instrumental with the design of our new Decade model…..I trust The Pit and Steve.

The Dude is a good man who has had some life setbacks in the past year, and in my mind, that can be and already are worked out.

I can’t stress this enough – knowledge at the retail level – at Dude’s level - is beyond rare and those of us that get to use his knowledge are privileged.

No one needs to know how he handles his business behind the scenes. That is his business – period.

Please keep your support for Dude strong, I need him – We all do!. Try not to get involved with all the crap that’s floating around. Just remember who’s know about basses – DUDE.

It doesn't take a fool to realize that what happened the prior 8 years has anything to do with the goings on of the last year, or so. There was a time that I could order strings on a Monday and they'd show up on Wednesday. But, it took four days to get a working tracking number for my Dargie Delight, in spite of daily assurances that it'd be out "before 4pm today."

And, we all see how well business was handled behind the scenes since it flared up so spectacularly in public.

I guess I dont know basses.

Dan Dont bother slurping down the free beer in my booth like you did in Anaheim this year while bagging on how bad the Dude was. Convenient memory loss. We also said that we wouldnt get stuck in the middle. Once again you have taken sides only hearing one pathetic side. I warned the dude to stop poking the bear and he couldnt do it and now MY HALF is publc. This could have been avoided.

Nice job on the neodynium magnets in the "MMstyle" bobbins.......Oh wait that was in the Bongo first.

If Dan loves The Dud so much and thinks Steve knows so much about basses, why doesn't he hire The Dud to use his "rare knowledge" for him? Maybe because no one wants to hire a drugged out loser who spends his customer's money on meth and hookers.

I don't know what happened, but it seems as though some people are just trying to save face. Making MusicMan look like the bad guy is quite simply impossible in any situation.

In a van, down by the river...
Not having visited the forum for a week or two, I took some time yesterday reading up on this trainwreck...at first I couldn't quite make sense of what had happened to cause all these problems.

Then I read BP's post and saw the word "meth" and it suddenly became perfectly clear. I certainly hope that Dude gets the help he obviously needs.

What amazes me that some folks are apparently more willing to believe someone with an admitted meth problem over BP, Jack, et al.

Hello? We're talkin' about meth, here, not the occassional fatty behind the barn! I don't care how honest you were last year or eight years ago, but that sh*t changes everything...I'm sorry, but you cannot believe anything an unreformed meth addict says, and you cannot trust them with money....so how are BP and Jack the villians, exactly?

Just wondering.

Again, I hope he gets some help, I really do.

I really tried to stay quiet...

I own many Laklands and I have one great EBMM DD Bongo.

Dan is a great guy and a friend of mine. I don't know Sterling, but given what I read, I assume the same of him. If Jack thinks the same of Sterling, that's proof enough for me.

Dan did not slag EBMM in his alleged note. Key word - alleged. If all is true about Steve, who is to say the note is real. Who is to say what Dan knows and or what was edited. Much like Sterling gave Steve a lot of rope, Dan could be in the 'give rope' phase.

Again, I had hoped to be a spectator in this... but I do have this trouble keeping my mouth shut.

I guess my point is, if Dan hasn't chimed in as himself, I think he should just be left out.

JIM

PS: By the way, who was drinking beer and why wasn't I invited (I bring free beer wherever I go).

I appreciate the sentiment expressed, Jim, but Dan is getting his information from one source and attempting to walk on both sides of the street.

That dog won't hunt.

You know me. You've been in my house, we've had a drink (or three), we've played some basses and I won't begin to try to tell you you're wrong, but you tell me if you think that Sterling and I are part of some evil plot to bring down Steve.

Right?

I mean, speaking of dogs that won't hunt, you know?

Jack

PS: Jim really does bring the beer, you can bet on that.

I don't own a Lakland, nor do I know very much about them. I do own a Stingray 4 & am happy with it. I have no idea what has gone on between Dude & this forum or that forum & don't really much care. Seems to me that if Bovine did not want the drama here, he would not have made this thread.

I don't write so well, I guess...

Oh no Jack, was not implying an evil plot, in fact quite the opposite.

My point - Dan hasn't chimed in, so we don't know if that's from him. That's all. Unless there is back room communicating that I don't know about. I don't like the back room, it scares me.

I have a small Schnoodle dog that I love like a gay man - not that there's anything wrong with that - so my dog definately don't hunt.

this just cannot be some evil plot by jack and sterling. first off theyre rad guys. they really are. they're not shady and have some vendeta. they would never do that. id trust both of those guys w/ just about anything.

im assuming here - but when The Pit and MM "got a long" everyone was happy right? both sides made sales, we got great deals and jack helped handle our orders and we all trust him. all was well wasnt it? so why would a deliberate plot be spawned to screw that up?

Jack's not shady?

Did you know that Jack once worked as an cryptological tech for the Navy? They have this room called SSES where nobody is allowed to get in except them.

Well This is some pretty Funny **** folks, Anyone here ever vist a Vintage Guitar Show, 90% of the folks know nothing but yet they know it all, so that makes them an expert, LMFAO.

This reminds me Of the Nashville Scene, I'm hanging with this 1 guy, yeah he sucks but I need him because his dad is James Stroud a Famous producer and maybe he'll listen to my CD, and produce my next Hit, or my ownly hit, lol

At any rate it's sad for all Parties involved, But Ernie Ball Basses are the **** and have been since 1985 so lets Just wait for the next LE's to be released and Move on.

Being nutral here and not kissing anyones butt and only because I don't have to, Sterling Balls Name along with Ernie Ball Products have been around for many, many years. The Ernie Ball Name have spoken for it self.

They're known for Honesty, Quality Products through out this industry for decades. Much Longer then the folks in Conversation.

This isn't ass kissing it's reality.

Nah, I mostly moved papers from one place to another.

And bodies.

Seriously though, Dan must be pretty clueless.

A man that's never played a gig in his life REALLY knows his stuff about basses, huh? Not saying that anyone that doesn't play gigs doesn't know anything. I would trust the dude's opinion as much as i'd trust a redneck with a gallon of sweet tea.
