I bought & played a Sterling fretted 4, Maple Board (Sunburst) in the mid- 90's IIRC. Short story- sold it to buy "another bass", enjoyed other bass very much, but always missed the Sterling.
Recently, did some pretty nice gigs w/ very nice payouts.
Went to local GC for a speaker cable, and there on the wall-
AWESOME Sterling 4, beautiful Natural finish, Maple board (single H). tort PG-
Classic.
I had no intention of buying another bass, but THIS one called to me,I played it, that was it- Done. Sold. Made a "deal" with GC, and this is the basis for registering on this forum and making this post.
I want to thank the builders at EB/MM for what they do- This is a flawless instrument, and they've been improved since my last one. The compensated nut is one very noticeable spec change. Every facet of this instrument sings. I forgot just how tight these instruments are.
I don't want to broach any Forum rules with discussion about pricing, but this bass would be a value at 2x the cost- (I have some instruments that are more than 2x the cost!!) and that's my point.
I REALLY believe that these basses are built so that players can play them!
No, I'm not saying MM is non-profit, but I'm thinking that profits from Slinkys
(EVERY guitarist I know uses 'em!) must drive and allow the Company to make an incredible instrument at a price point that is kinda unbelievable to me, all things being equal.
Pricing aside, I've "lurked" the Forum on my downtime, etc. and now that I've got Sterling #2 (this one ain't going anywhere!) I would like to tell the people at EB/MM that I personally believe there is a reason and a method to their, umm
"madness" (and there is some crazy stuff posted here!!) so-
From the man whose name appears on the headstock of my new instrument
"Big Poppa" I believe, all the way to whomever ships the basses...
Great job, FANTASTIC basses, and by all means, keep on doing what you do so well.
Thanks for building my bass. I appreciate it.
And now I'm gonna play 'til my fingers hurt.
