..... I made the mistake of playing one of these in a local music shop today....

30thannivsr.jpg

It is a crappy picture I know, but it is a SR4 30th single H fretted.

It is on hold for me until I decide to pull the trigger or wait for a Bongo 6. PLUS.... it is on sale for less than I would have expected. :D

My wife is going to open a can of whoopass if I buy this but I can't believe how it sounds. The mohogany body makes a HUGE difference and the sustain is Spinal Tap-esque.;)

It's all about perspective...
I tell the wife I could be out buying $15,000 to $20,000 boats like my brother or at the bars every weekend like one of her friend's husbands.
Or I could be in my office playing my new MM in the comfort of our home.

You will be amazed what they will get you then.. ;)

Unless she tells you to be out of the house more, then that's a whole nother issue.

That is a beautiful Bass. :)

If I could, I'd buy another. I need 2 because I'm so conflicted by the "it's too pretty to play" and the "but it sounds unbelievable" aspects of the 30th. One in a display on the wall as a work of art and one under my fingers getting a fair amount of mojo.

I know how you feel. I have two wives. My first wife was "too pretty to have relations with", so I had her stuffed and put her in a display case. My other wife is ugly as sin but we're "gettin' it ooon" every night.;)

That is why I refer to mine as "The Beauty and the Beast". What to do?
Play it and take really good care of it, you then can enjoy both aspects. I gig mine about 25% of the time so not to wear it out and pamper it like no other. It ain't rocket science cuz if it were I would never figure it out. ;)

I have yet to gig mine (always bring the trusty Bongo5) and am seriously considering giving it a "studio-only" role. Still, there are plenty more 30th's still available out there .......

That's exactly why I got some spare 30ths.

Thanks to 58super, I found a SR5 20th locally that I am going to look at tonight.

Man, my wife is going to kick my ass. Hopefully the bass is scratched to hell or the neck is like a banana.;)

I picked up a 30th Anniversary a few weeks ago-- if you have the means I highly recommend it. You can always find another wife, but they only made 800 or so of these pieces.

Because of this thread...

As a result of reading this thread a week or so ago... I bought a 30th SR today. So far, couldn't be happier with it - I'm actually kind of stunned at how much I like it. I did not realize they only made 783 of them.

Good move and congrats! You won't regret it. I feel the same way about mine. I knew I'd like it because it's gorgeous, but it has quickly moved up the depth chart to co-#1 status, and I never expected that. I now have two basses I'll never sell.
