NOW:

New wireless keyboard and mouse for my Mac (bought yesterday)
and a 19" brand spankin' new flat screen monitor being run 1440x900 @ 60Hertz resolution.
Now I can use my Mac as a laptop and when I'm at my desk I connect 2 cables and it's a desktop.
It's a MacBook Dual Core (not 2) that I've had since September. But the desktop setup feature is new. I wanted a Mac desktop, but couldn't afford it and decided this is a cheaper and in some ways better alternative. I don't have to worry about syncing data between desktop and laptop for one, since they're one in the same for me. :D

Now I'm trying to decide if I'm going to run DVI or VGA from Mac to monitor. I'm leaning DVI right now. (Please don't give me the technical garble and tell me DVI is better. I know the technicals behind it and such; I'm a computer salesman and my dad is an IT/SA for the last 20 years professionally and a while before that as a hobby.)

Drool.

Yeah, it's WAY O/T.

I'm using a 1 GHz G4 Aluminum Powerbook, about 4 or 5 years old. Longest I've ever gone without upgrading...diminishing need for bleeding edge technology, I guess. Lusting after a MacBook Pro, but can't justify until this one wears out. I'm spending all my money on musical toys.

Don't forget to buy a honkin' huge external drive and BACK UP YOUR LAPTOP! Storage is stupid-cheap these days, and not backing up is just plain dumb.

I prefer the MacBook over the MacBook Pro, but that's me. :D
And yes, I missed some Twist Ties. They're off the desk now, but I snapped those pics in excitement. :)

Looks great Eric! That looks like my MacBook ( white )

Tip - you should have put your Sterling somewhere in the pic, maybe over to the side, then you wouldn't have to worry about being so OT....ha! :) :)

The Sterling is right next to my desk. Within arms reach when working on the computer. :D

You can see the upper horn in this pic (before I got the monitor and keyboard and mouse) (2 days ago):

Either my Rush R30 or Yes DVD playing on the screen. Not really sure which and am too tired to take a close look to figure it out. :D

And you can see the whole thing in this one before I cleaned my desk (3 days ago):

I don't use iChat. I have Adium. Look at what's running on the screen. That's Adium.

Probably. hahahaha

VGA is analog
DVI can handle digital and analog signals.

DVI is the new standard.

Whether you can see the difference is probably at best a subjective matter. I would say it's like LPs versus CDs.

Next time your in SLO look at Drew, Dudley, or Jon's monitors. They have dual displays going on. Their monitors are both the same make but one uses DVI and the other uses VGA. Side by side they can see the difference, I can't. Never seen either side by side while watching video though.
