when i first started playing i learned by playing metal so galloping is normal for me - i actually have to think when i play straight.

when i play maiden finger style i use 3 fingers

Steve Harris was a huge influence on my early years. I agree with phatty, I have to almost concentrate to not use a three fingered gallop at times. Ever try using 3 fingers to play Paul Chambers? Very challenging if you are ever bored.

Well, it's great that you can effectively use the three-finger technique!

I've tried to incorporate it into my playing, but I'm very used to my tone and can't get something similar using three fingers. Of course, I've had to work on my endurance even more. BTW, Steve Harris has stated many times that he only uses two fingers, but his ring and pinky follow the others and that's why it seems he's using more than two fingers.

Now that I remember, there's actually one point in that video in which I use it: The "Aces High" intro, for the quick F# and D notes. It only works for me with simple stuff like that (the solution: Practice!). I think I'd play the "Under Pressure" riff the same way.

Let's not forget "Transylvania" off the first Maiden. I remember hearing that one for the first time and wanted to quit after trying to get it for a week. I was weened on Steve Harris, it was a very exiting time in music. How fast can you play?
