^ The same thing has sloshed around in my mind too... I think EBMM draws some of its strength from the lack of mainstream hype. You never see a corny add with EBMM's in guitar world, you never hear about EBMM 65% off blowout sales at music stores, and you never (at least I don't) see EBMM referring to it's past to pull buyers in.

you have a point Bruce, so many times at gigs and during lessons i get asked about my guitars, and most dont have any idea that EBMM even exist!

Very True! I've been playing my Silos stateside & overseas for years and without fail and almost every night, I'd have people ask me what kind of guitar is that? I've never seen one! And even funnier, it still happens! Not nearly as much, but enough! I've said for years that the Silo is truly the best kept secret on the market, a real diamond amongst a bevy of cubic zirconias. I don't deal with any of the "guitar supermarkets" (Y-4-M!) and haven't for ages. But if all else fails, maybe post or email EBMM for a list of distributors where you are. Anything worth having is worthy of using a tad bit of elbow grease......

I asked awhile back on TGP what forum members thought of EBMM guitars, as they're not often written about there. There was not a single criticism, and all who responded agreed that they're superb instruments.

i find it hard to believe anyone could honestly say that EBMM arent of the highest possible quality. its really incredible how great these guitars are. You only have to go a guitar store and play a few different guitars to realize how much better EBMM are, in just about every aspect. I feel truly lucky that i stumbled across them, but wish i didnt spend the 10 years playing Ibanez and Fender!

Before I found Balls I was into G&L's. Again, out of the mainstream, and very solidly constructed guitars. They, imo, just lacked finesse, that unique personalized touch and well broken in feeling of MM instruments. I've only really bonded with one other electric before getting my Balls, my first git, a 1965-66 Gib 330. But if I could get that same Gib back in exchange for one of my Balls, there's no way I'd trade.

With you on the G&Ls....very nice guitars.....though I could never like the headstock they had to adopt to avoid Fender trademarks. Another thing they sadly have in common with EBMMs (over in Europe anyway) is high prices and poor 2nd hand values. All a question of customer perception.

I believe they are essentially the same except I think the horns are a little longer on the regular Silo.

Silhouette has a longer top horn and a deeper cutaway, no doubt to accommodate the longer neck which is set deeper into the body. They weigh the same.

And from a cosmetic standpoint, the pickguard is a tiny bit bigger on the Special!

I'll definitely head to the Sunset guitar center. I love going there anyway. The vintage room is just amazing.

I think the horn is longer because the cut into the body is deeper to access the higher frets. My guess is there's effectively less wood on the Silo. I believe the over all head to heel length is the same on both guitars, though to my eyes the Silo appears longer.

thanks for all the feed back, First I'm going to head down to the sunset guitar center and see whats going on I'm only 20 min away so it would be worth it. If they do not have one or either I might have to just go with the HSH in a hardtail, I already have the perfect strat sound in my strat and I just got some Kinmans pick ups in there so it is pretty happening, if I could suggest any noiseless single coils Kinman is awesome, now I shall just decide on the color medalion gold/white pearliod or vintage burst/solid black...hmmmm I love making these choices. Cannot wait for my first EBMM

Hey Tim, do me a favor and let me know what EBMM guitars they do have there.

I was there last month and as I recall they had two Lukes, a few Axis/Axis Sports, and a 20th silo with a string missing. No standard Silos or Silo Specials.
