Would you guys be cool with something, say, second or third week in September, when everyone's back from vacation, etc.? If so, I've got an idea, and I've already spoken to The Glensterr, our inimitable EBMM rep who's always into fun with Balls. Not to be a tease, just wondering if you think the timing is good. The band biz goes to hell in July-August, and the first week of September is always mayhem. Let me know what you think.-eric

Eric- right on! Summer is nuts. By mid Sep things slow down, and I'd be in for something about that time.

Happy to cart my balls up to this event

Yep, that timing would be much better. The weather near the end of September is still nice, too. It's tough trying to get everyone together during the summer.

There's still myself, Beej, lumberjack, 58Super, grumpyoldman.

Yep - although I haven't lived in the big smoke for a couple of - uh - decades...I would still consider myself a Toronto-area EBMM fan. After missing out on Foggy's DDDD in Mississauga (and still kicking myself about that), I will do EVERYTHING I CAN to attend an event like this!

(If it's a weekend that gets chosen, I hope the band isn't booked.....or I will miss out again!!!)

John, don't kick yourself! It was very last minute.
They seem to be planning this one well in advance. I don't see why a lot of us can't make it. :)

Maybe a Sunday would be best, as us working (read:poor) guitarists gig Friday-Saturday? I've got a venue in mind, access to PA and backline, a host band, and possibly a killer Special Guest band that just happens to be EBMM endorsers. I'm still working details, but I think this can happen pretty easily. I'd try to get folks to "pre-register", just so we knew how many to expect, and find-out what style(s) of music people like so we can assemble some working lineups, or if you guys want to sneak around and put together some "lineups", all the better. Venue I'm thinking of is licensed, so that would mean 19+, or we could keep it unlicensed so younger family could attend. Thoughts on this? (Balls without beer? Keep the kiddies at home...)
Pretty much a blank sheet of paper here folks, so any and all ideas you had would be gladly entertained!-Eric

Any firm plans yet for this shin-dig?

It's definitely on my list of things to do before October:D:D:D

Maybe we should make a poll with dates.

Options could be the 1st, 8th, 15th and the 22nd.

And where could we do this?

Glad someone revived this thread. I've actually been at work making this happen. Do you guys still think a Sunday is a good idea (I'm thinking like sometime in the afternoon in order to let us finish at a reasonable hour for people who work the next day)? My current thinking would be the 23rd, with the 30th as my backup. HOW ARE THESE DATES FOR YOU GUYS? The venue I have in mind is a club called "The Wheat King" on Main Street in Newmarket, site of our recent Albert Lee clinic. Decent sound, decent stage, and enough room for us to spread out and show each other our Musicmans. Format would be PA supplied, as would be a drumset with house drummer (others welcome), a great bassamp with a great house bassist, and probably three guitar amps. In order to keep things flowing and not spend a good portion of the time watching people setup their personal rigs, bring your guitar(s), a fave overdrive and tuner, guitar stands and cables. Leave your amps and pedalboards at home. Level playing field guys; we're there for fun, not a Jack Butler-style head-cutting contest. Our amazing EBMM rep Glen Booth is totally into this idea, and for those of you who haven't had the pleasure, he is a great guy as well as your best friend when it comes to getting more cool Musicmans into Canada.
How do you folks feel about the booze thing? We can keep it 19+, as this is a licensed club, or allow younger folks with parent. You folks want a day off from the kids, or is it important that Dad/Mom gets a chance to show off? I'm personally in favour of 19+, but we'll go with the majority.
In the next few days I'll post in a couple of the categories of this forum to hopefully get everyone in the loop. I'll have an email registration form, just so we know who everybody is and how to contact them, how many people they will be bringing, whether they have a "lineup" for this event (go ahead; form your own little bands for the day for those of you who know each other). Have three songs prepared, perhaps a fourth in the bag time permitting. No jam noobs standing up there wondering what to play; be ready to go. Don't bother bringing your regular band, this is a Forum day not a new band showcase day. Don't bother bringing guitars other than EBMM. Don't bring your rig; I'll tell you to put it back in your car. DO bring a photogenic shirt, as there will be lots of photos taken. DO make your own nametag with your forum handle and your real name (prize for the most original?), or you may get the "self-adhesive happyface" one attached to you at the door. This is a social event first and foremost, so bring your most fun attitude!
We're wide open for ideas folks, so feel free to post them here. I'll know lots more after a Tuesday meeting, so watch this space.-Eric [email protected]

Count me in if it's on a Sunday - either 23rd or 30th would work for me (gigs on 22nd and 29th so it makes no real difference...).

I visited The Arts for the first time last Tuesday on my way through the area - great store, by the way! Without realizing it, I may even have spoken to you (I was the guy who couldn't stick around for the Wednesday Albert Lee clinic...?).
