Sax works plenty good in many things. Where would Springsteen be without it? Or...lemme think.

I wish that were true but after a quarter-century of playing sax and piano, I finally learned and switched to bass so I could join in the fun.

I actually agree except in the case of extremely talented keyboardists .
I like to include as many instruments as possible whenever I jam, just cuz there aren't too many guitarists and basses around these here parts...

What about Clav, Rhodes or Wurlitzer?
I did a gig recently where the client had request a sax player, I wasn't happy about it. So we got this kid from the conservatory, and man he was good; real good. He kicked my butt all night, I never had one rehearsal with him or even told him the key for most of the songs. I can't wait for the chance to use him again...

Maybe I have just had some bad keyboard player experiences! But to answer your question, no I am not a DT fan. Not my cup of tea at all.

I agree with this thread, there definitely could be more use of piano and sax in rock music. I love both of those instruments.

There are many Elvis Costello songs with liberal use of the piano, and it sounds really cool.

I was thinking of trying to introduce the bassoon into modern rock music. Any takers? Check out how rock and roll it is!!!

Andreas Vollenweider makes brilliant music with all sorts of instruments. Although he's labeled "New Age" his albums quite often have parts that feature electric guitars paired with piano, harp, Australian Shepard's flutes, you name it. I've been amazed on more than one occasion at how great certain instruments sound together.. ones that I would never have thought to use simultaneously.

examples that come to mind are:

"Czippa and the Ursanian Girl" from the "Book of Roses" album
"Hirzel" from "Book of Roses"

"Ein Art Suite" from the "Trilogy" boxed set.


You really can't go wrong with any of his albums from 1992 and earlier.
