After a very brief love affair with Lakland and Fender (and my bandmates begging me to go back to the "amazing tone" of the Bongo), I did a large outdoor Canada Day gig with my Bongo 5 on Saturday night.

Needless to say, the sound was amazing and I couldn't believe how many people came up to me afterwards telling me how great the bass sounded.

Back into the cases the Fenders and Lakland go!:)

Tell me, what is the secret of the mighty Bongo?

I have no idea. When I practice in my basement the Bongo just sounds ok and the low B string is actually a bit floppy. But at gig volume levels, the bass just sounds amazing and the low B seems to tighten up. I think the tone (18V active might help) is what does it for me.

It just cuts through the mix so well.:)

dude why put them in a case when there's ebay?? ;)

Nah. You never know when you will break a string so multiple backup basses are needed.:p:D

Plus, how many of us are really happy with JUST ONE bass?

Also, I really have trouble slapping with my Bongo, so I may have to use the Fender or Lakland in one of the bands I am in for a couple of songs. But just a couple of songs, I promise!!!!
