Play 4 string Stingrays (and only use two of the four strings), don't use pedals or bass pods of any type, and only use Ernie Ball cables to connect to their choice of amps.

Bring it on you pedal board Bongoloids. ;)

Same here...extremely bored. Yesterday felt like Monday all day long and today just feels like a waste of time...nothing happening.

Real men are gearheads. Real bass players are gearheads in the non-automotive sense and aren't afraid of pedals and pods.

I still haven't seen these space toilets that the Bongo supposedly looks like. Because I know I haven't seen any Earth toilets that look like a Bongo.

It takes a lot-o-balls to compare your instrument to a toilet seat. My balls, however, are of the more traditional design. The design real bass players use. They don't require 2 batteries to power up. No Sir, one will do. They don't require 5 strings to get the right sound. No way! 4 is more than enough. And when you want to impress the girls, well, have I told you my story about Penny Lane?

So I'm guessing that 3-string MusicMan made Tony Levin "the Man".;)

Of course, he also plays that Chapman Stick a lot and it has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, ....... 12 strings!!!:eek:


Personally, a 4-string makes me feel like I've been shorted a string. 5 all the way!!! Oh, and effects should only be used sparingly.

i've recorded a song with some strange effects on the bass...

we just finished recording this song called "let the fools die" w/ my old band and i never really dug the super high pitch guitar intro. so after all vocals n stuff were done i hopped into the engineers room and said "hey dude, gimmie all the pedals you have... i wanna try something".

the end result was pretty rad... especially since the new intro bass track ended up overlaying the "real" bass track. so having 2 bass tracks in the begining of the song struck me as pretty cool.

ps: dont listen to the song "starfish"... it sucks

You know there was a whole generation of guitar players who got told to turn the volume down and just play the melody. Why did they fade away when guitarists went mad, but the bass prudes never did? A question for the ages!

but seriously... listen to that song and imagine it without the intro bass thing. there's no way in hell i was gonna leave that guitar intro alone. i had to cover it up cuz i always hated it

for recording purposes.........i just picked up an Ampeg BA 210 SP.......whole pile of effects.........great unit to mic.


has an XLR out that i use,as well as micing it through the PA.........takes two tracks but,man.....some sweet sounds to all the old songs.

i too can appreciate "the effect"

thanks dude. before i got all into punk rock i was into metal and a huge cliff burton fan so in my noob days i used dist. + wah quite a bit. first song i ever learned was anesthesia so i guess i have a soft spot for some distortion and wah but i honestly plug in effects for like 10 minutes a year now.
