BP - not to totally hijack this thread - but I just heard you have some of the inlay pieces for the BFRs done out here in Colorado - by my friend Todd R. Is that true? He is a great guy and does some amazing work.

I'm afraid that Lord Bongo himself is out of the running on the (possible) BFR Bongo.
For the longest time, I always had something that might be disposable. I had some room to wheel and deal and buy and sell and trade and so on.
Now? I don't see anything.
I might have said the blue Bongo 5 HS but now that I've been playing it again, I don't think so, and let's face it - it ain't going to net me enough to cover a BFR!
WTF.
Silly thing to bitch about. "My basses are too good to sell!" Plus my 20th SR5 is really, in effect, a BFR as far as I'm concerned.
I need to shut up. (Or get a job!)

It's green and has flames.
The number of people on the planet who own unique Bongos can be counted on the fingers of one hand, if you cut off a couple of fingers.
And you're one of them.
Think on that for a moment.
Then consider your recent straying from the true path as defined by the Church of Bongo (of which, I might add, you were a founding member).
Based on recent posts I can tell you've been lured by the sinful wiles of beautiful harlots like the 20th SR5 and the Dargie.

I think I've mentioned this before, Andy, but I have thought about it - and for more than a moment - and you make a good point. I have always gotten it, and I still get it. The fact that I'm a very fortunate person, and I try to never lose sight of that. I do get it. It's hard, I think, to get a real sense of who someone is over the internet, but I hope the regulars here have me figured out.
I try to keep it real. I'm no one special. I got lucky in that I was in early on the Bongo Love and happen to be mouthy. That's really all it was. BP and I have ended up as friends for a lot of other reasons (I think!), but it all started with Bongos and how oddly resistant people were, at least at first.
And that Flaming Biff Bongo means more to me than any other bass, ever. Hell, my boy calls it "The Flaming Biff"! He's been drawing pictures of it lately - I should post those. He's always been drawn to it, hah, even though he doesn't really know how cool it is on a sentimental level.
I'm writing this with my sapphire black Bongo on my lap.
I just want you guys to know that I DO get it. I surely do.
True. Guilty as charged! The 20th SR5, especially, has sucked me in. I'm a Bongo Man at heart (Lord Bongo, indeed), but that 20th is something else.
Never fear, however. There's a Bongo on my lap and a song in my heart!
Reality checks are good, but I'm okay. I think. Reel me in if I get weird.

It is, isn't it? Famous enough that people thought there was some kind of "small eq" Bongo out there.
But look at this.
1. I have a VERY early production model fiver (the sapphire black HH) that has never let me down.
2. I have a Blue Pearl that Dargie built for me because I wanted the Big Poppa Bongo.
3. I have the Big Poppa Bongo! God bless you, boss. That's the one we were playing last Friday, BTW. "If you didn't have it, I'd STILL be gigging it!"
4. I have the Flaming Biff and you of all people know what a great bass that is.
5. The Candy Red Bongo 5 single H, signed by you-know-who and you-know-when. I've also added signatures from Erika and Jeremy.
It's really, seriously hard to complain.
And the 20th SR5....and the 30th SR4....and the Dargies....if you hear me bitching, just go ahead and tell Koogs to kill me.

You know that BIff Bongo is just an of the rack one that I happened to use for a few gigs and it sure is a nice one. I dont even know what I have now. Im in Idaho and brought the 50th Birthday bass The only one still at my house.....Stopped into a music store here and got a gig playing next week in a wine cellar. Wish I had a Bongo...its a trio with two guitars and a keyboard and I get to play Mando uke bass and guitar.....Lets see if I get asked back......Fed ex just delivered my 65 deluxe reverb and crushed it to bits.........waiting to see how my mark bass fares.

Yup, I knew that about the BP Bongo, but it's anti-gravity and everyone who played it at the Open House knew it was a good one. It really did get a lot of action here the other night, and even amongst all the great basses, it proved itself worthy of the "Big Poppa Bongo" moniker.
I meant to ask you WTF you're doing in Idaho (again). In any case, if you only have one bass at your house (which I know to be untrue - that poor, neglected Sterling in the corner loves you, man), the 50th Birthday Bass is always a good choice, even with the maple fretboard.
You need a Bongo? WHERE, might I ask, is the rosewood necked Bongo that both Dave LaRue and I covet?
And what's a 65 Deluxe Reverb worth these days? Yeesh.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your Markbass rig.

I did go to bed ahead of Jack. Was still awake enough to hear the martini glass breaking downstairs.
And while Jack may have the navy third eye thing down, I have super ninja powers developed by sneaking out past my ex-special forces father. I was out visiting my mother in June and she was amazed that I can still move through her house in total darkness without waking her up. Freaks my wife out when I do it at home.
