RIGHTIES vs LEFTIES

One thing I'm interested to know is if the leftys think that 'their' instruments look good?

If so, did lefty guitars always look good to you, or was it a gradual acceptance that came about after you discovered that that was what you were going to have to get used to?

How many of you use rightys the other way up? (Haven't seen anyone do this for a while).

I know I'm a luddite old righty, but lefty planks always look a bit ......'wrong?' to me.

I know what you are saying. Everybody is just conditioned to see it righty that when a lefty version comes up, it looks "off" that is my misery, but thank you EBMM for helping us lefties out more than anybody.

I do everything left handed except the only thing I was ever good at....Hockey. I played AA elite travel in Cali which is one of the hardest hockey states. Won a few nationals and finals and my team had a sponshership with CCM (company owned by Reebok). It is very common to have your handiness switched, some of the best pro players shoot lefty but are all right handed. Having your dominant hand on top gives you more control and stability while having it on the shaft gives you way more power.
I wish I would have been a left handed shot cause you get more playing time as there are usually 2 lefties on the team and 10 righties and their angle comes in very handy on the point and left wing (of course). In fact one of the few times being lefty (well at least shooting lefty) could be an advantage...and the only time I wasn't lefty However though my shot wasn't hard I scored a many a goals because I could snap my left wrist off so fast when someone passed it to me, It was off my stick before I even had it for a tenth of and goalies were not in postiton. Coaches said I had one of the better snap shots they've seen, which is a hard shot to perfect.
Well a long story but since it is a Righty vs Lefties I wanted to show that lefties can be at an advatage sometimes, and are actually sort of in the better position in hockey. Every single stick is also made left handed and some sticks are actually up in the $200 range so it would be like walking into guitar center and one side of the wall is lefty and one side is righty. (Even a JP and AL!) If that actually really ever happened I would be one happy lefty dash right handed hockey palyer

Playing both lefty and righty in lacrosse is almost required. I worked that left hand so hard that I eventually got better with it than I was with my right. I suppose it wasn't as huge an adjustment for me as one might have thought, because I always was more comfortable playing lefty with a hockey stick whether it was floor hockey or roller hockey. When I got to college, they needed someone with a good left hand. Consequently, when I played for a year in college I ended up spending most of my time starting on what one might consider the right wing.

I find that left handed guitars do look weird unless I specifically am playing them. I'm sure were I to see a video or picture of me playing, they'd still look weird. It just feels so right. I mean left. Damn it.

I think I end up looking at right handed guitars mostly out of spite. As an example, I walked into Tom Lee Music in Vancouver on Saturday afternoon. I had to ask the guy if they had any lefties, because I just wasn't seeing them. He took me to a little floor stand that held three. Two F****rs and a ESP LTD. I have never been an ESP fan, so it was a write-off. I was hankering to try an amp they had there, so I plugged in one of the Strats. The neck was wonkier than an eight day work week. The other Strat was okay, but shyed in comparison to the Balls.

It makes me sad seeing the bliss on right handed people's faces when they can walk into a store and play 99.72% of the instruments in there.

Anyways, there's my little story. I am 100% happy that I started playing left handed though. It means that no one EVER wants to play my guitar. When I crack out my DD Luke everyone wants to play it until... "oh man, you play backwards. Now I can't try out your axe." - darn it all.

I,m a Lefty guitarist and it feels so right but when I see other lefties play it looks so wrong. Also on Jam night it can be a plus or minus depending which way you feel about jam nights?

Truth be told, I can play rhythm guitar upside down almost as well as I can regularly. When a person hands me a right handed guitar, nothing impresses more than taking that guitar, flipping it upside down, playing one's ass off with it AND doing it better than most of the drunkards at that party.

It's the ultimate advantage, yes.

I'm a left-handed person who plays right-handed. Back in music class in school there were no lefty guitars so there were no choice. That being said I'm glad I play right handed because of the convenience.

No, no. You're right. However, if it comes down to listening to some hippy asswipe playing Jack Johnson poorly at best, I'd much rather take the guitar away and play something better.

You're right though... no one wants to be THAT guy.
