If no ATL, try Nashville

Nashville is a 3 1/2 hour drive for me from ATL.
SLO would be a blast, with the factory and controlled substances, like food and beverages. BP would make sure of it.
On the other hand, I'll bet Derek or others at EBMM know of some great places too and venues to eat, and Jam in Nashville. Its a music town.

The desert is very nice in October. Desert Hot Springs has some cool and not very expensive motel/hotels that have hot pools and hot tubs. Also an absolutely great Korean restaurant. And a good breakfast place for Jack. Yum. Ontario International(!) Airport is easy in, easy out. DHS isn't a terribly far piece from Palm Springs and perhaps more affordable for some.

Joshua Tree National Park was our vacation wonderland for much of my childhood and it is a fabulous place. Perfect for those of you who climb rocks, but lovely scenery for everyone. You'll get a whole new appreciation for the desert. There's also a cool motel right near the park that is a sort of Gram Parsons tribute (it's where he died) and it's a very cool old (50s/60s) style Southern CA type of place. It brought back a lot of memories when I stayed there a few years ago. It's that much further from Palm Springs, though.

The Palm Springs air museum is enjoyable. WWII emphasis. There's a hangar for the European and one for the Pacific Theatre. Some great models and working aircraft you can walk around. That's all we saw in Palm Springs when we went to the desert, so others will have to fill you in on what's cool there. Oh, we saw the Russell Stover blimp, too. It's red.

I'd also love to go to SLO. My vote goes like this:
Palm Springs/Coachella
SLO (equal or very close second)
Nashville

I would love to support New Orleans, and I have with some charity giving, but I'm with Jack. I wouldn't go there now purely for safety reasons.

I was touring in New Orleans a few weeks ago and it's still pretty rough down there. Cafe Du Monde was still up and running so that was a good thing. :)

Nashville.

I'm not saying NOLA would fit this get together better than the other suggested sites (it probably won't), but I did want to say that I have been down there 6 or 7 times since Katrina (2 times last month) and am going again next weekend. We have had a blast every single time we go. Great local bands playing all over Bourbon Street, all the freakin' booze you could ever want to drink, great food if you know where to go, awesome hotels, and an absolute anything goes party atmosphere. If you're into that sort of thing don't be scared to check it out. The French Quarter area is back and kickin' serious butt.

Please don't take this as a hijack... But the safety comments on New Orleans kind of pushed my buttons.

Yes, violent crime is up. And it shouldn't be. But it is largely confined to the underpopulated areas and the traditional trouble spots. It's a shame, but as Jack pointed out, it's always been that way. Try to go buy crack in the wrong neighborhood and you'd have a higher life expectancy in Iraq. The big issues for the locals these days is that they need to drive through some of the unpopulated areas to get too and from work. This makes the city far more dangerous for them than it was before.

But for the most part, the French Quarter is no more dangerous than any other city. Uptown is about the same. If you're falling down drunk looking for trouble, you'll surely find it. But that's true of any city.

Anyway, I wouldn't expect issues for the types of places an EBMM event would be held. But don't take this as lobbying for it either.

Where ever you hold this event, I suggest there be a webcam hooked up to someone's laptop, connected to a wireless network, so that Knuckleheads from other continents can view the fun and games.

Can't miss on either of these

1) SLO
2) Coachella
Last time I got a factory tour, I got a birthday present out of it -- Ducati Monster.
So if factory in SLO, I'll get my AL.
If other ... I'll get strings for my Y2D
Can't lose.

WHen I posted this I was really open. My feelings is that SLO isnt going anywhere and we can do it next year or the year after. The desert is really great that time of the year and we can easily have put on a no excuses bash. Behind that is really New Orleans and close behind is Nashville.....

There are so many good reasons for me to be in the high desert. Erika says Hawaii would be nice, but I need to see Joshua Tree again.

Wherever it is, boss, I'll just be happy to see you and the gang.
