hey guys, while I am waiting for my JP7, I am still playing my first guitar, an Ibanez RG 570. I recently had a fret level and recrown, full setup and a new jack installed in the guitar. When I went to pick it up, they had used 9-42 strings and had not installed the new jack. I asked them to keep it for a day, reset up the guitar with 9-46 strings like I had originally asked, and to install the new jack. The salesman tried telling me that 9-46 strings would not change the height of the bridge if it was setup for 9-42's, but I'm no fool, so I told him to keep it and redo it. Here is a picture of my bridge now. Is this too high? Im a little curious, and worried. Please let me know!

i figured it was. is it close enough to right that I could do it myself, or is it high enough that adjusting it would mess up my intonation?

Setting the balance of the original Edge trems is easy....

Use the side of the knife edges as a guide like this:

Look at the trem from either side (bass side is probably easier as the knobs usually get in the way from the treble side)...you can see the end of the knife edge plate as a very thin rectangle.

Simply, the knife edge should be parallel to the guitar's top.

As yours is set now, the leading edge (the sharp edge if you will...that's actually resting on the two posts) of the knife edges will be lower than the trailing edge.

You want to gradually increase the spring tension (probably just a 1/4 turn in at a time) and retune the guitar each time until those edges sit as they should.

im not a member on jemsite. i dunno, just figured id post it in here since there isnt a forum for strict guitar tech, despite if its an ebmm or not. Im not a n00b to the whole forum scene...ive been a member on mikeportnoy.com for like 4 years now. Sorry if i offended, upset or made anyone squirm in their seats....:confused::rolleyes:

If you normally have .009 - .046, what the heck is the bridge doing with too little tension on the trem springs? :confused:

he orginally set the guitar up with 9-42's...even though i KNOW that i specified VERY clearly i wanted 9-46's. So, my issue is that I am pretty sure he didnt re-set up the guitar, just threw the strings on and said the hell with it. I usually use 4 springs on the bridge anyway. Im about to make the change now.
