Those all look great. Any idea what happened to the tops on these? I mean they're not bad, but they're definitely not what I'd expect on a $3k guitar...

It all has to do with the lighting.

For the limited depth on the middle one I'd buy that, but the tops on the first and third ones are poor. Lighting doesn't account for poor figuring on half of a guitar from two different angles. Especially when they have a few six string F1s that were shot in the same location that look fine.

I don't agree. The pictures capture a very good amount of detail, and shows all guitars from two different angles, so I think that it's a fair representation of the quilts on those guitars.

Compared to the pics you posted, the quality seems like night & day.

None of the pics that I've seen from that store have particularly nice representations of the tops. I would think that it has something to do with the lighting, the camera, or whatever. They way they shoot the pics, the tops don't really show a lot of depth.

Compare the BFR JPs to this Luke:

It looks more figured, but it doesn't really have the same depth as Pete's pictures. I think the real test is to look at it in the flesh or have other pics taken with another camera.

Karl and techno the worst part about delaers taking pics of guitar is that we have no control over camera resonlution camera quality and lighting. Then we get guys who wont believe pete and probably wont believe me. IT DEPENDS ON THE PHOTOGRAPH. No0t one BFR has left the factory with a less than outstanding top.

Please dont disparage a guitar and question its value without seeing it in person It is not really fair to us.

I wasn't disparaging the guitar, I was sort of shocked as I've come to expect good things from you guys and those tops just didn't look up to par so I thought I'd ask about it.

Techno, I think everyone that has seen one of these 'in the flesh' has raved about the quality of the tops.

I really don't think that it's fair of you to say things like this based on what is probably a fairly heavily compressed picture.
