i've been scouring the 'basses for sale' thread, ebay and local classifieds and it seems that there aren't a whole lot of sterlings for sale. i have an ebay search for music man guitars and basses that i look at every single day and there's tons of guitars but where the heck are the sterlings? i am DYING to buy a used sterling (preferrably a black pickguard on black finish with a rosewood fingerboard) and it just seems that there's not a bunch of sterlings out there! i guess these basses are too dang good to give up. ;-)

also try using the craigslist search tool i wrote... u can get to it from my signature

Yep, a Sterling isn't a bass that you can replace with something "better".

I love that color scheme too, it does show the fingerprints though!

Yeah, Stingrays get most of the spotlight. But man, my Sterling is my favorite bass in the world, it fits my hands perfectly.

Slim pickin's right now! I'm looking for a few color combos myself, and haven't had much luck. I'm going to hold out and get exactly what I want though..

I think people tend to hang on to them. The smaller body and small headstock means they don't take up much space, so they're easy to keep around. :)
I've owned two, sold the first one to Dave Fitch and regretted it immediately. Natural finish, great grain, 8 lbs 4 oz. Sigh. Still got the Buttercream HS. Great bass.

Um...yeah! That's the ticket!!! :D

Seriously, though, people just tend to hold on to them. What the heck would you want to trade one for? (quiet, you bongoloids!)

It seems that because they are rarely seen and the resale value is so good, the used Sterlings I've seen on line and at GC, etc, aren't that great of a "deal". Perhaps I could suggest waiting a while, saving up, and enjoy the experience of opening up a virgin Sterling case. Yipee!
