You ever go through phases?

I swear, some days the only thing that sounds good to me is my Sterling, to the point where I consider letting go some of my other basses, but then there's days like today where my Stingray sounds like the holy grail and I can't believe I thought about letting it go. It really is days like today that make me realize that I really need to think twice before parting ways with any of them. I can always make more money to buy what I want and still keep what I have, right?

I know I'm lucky that I own multiple basses. And I really appreciate BP's comment recently about how it's okay to collect and have a lot basses, because I feel guilty sometimes. You know, starving kids in China and all. And those other comments I hear sometimes like "why do you need all of those basses?" Because I want them...?

Yup.

I had one of those nights last Saturday. Picked up a Bongo, wasn't working for me, go figure. Went for a Stingray - nothing. Grabbed a SR5 and it was perfect.

But tonight, a few tweaks of the setup and the SR4 is kicking ass.

Tomorrow, something else. I don't ever feel bad about having these tools in the toolbox.

I think every instrument has its own "voice" and sometimes we get in the mood to hear what that voice has to say. Every instrument is unique, particularly MM, at least in my opinion. At least that's what I tell my bride when I think it's time for a new one. And sometimes she believes me.

That's what I have been trying to tell my spouse as well.

I do love that in this wacky forum that I have actually met several parents.

Kristopher I understand completely. I sometimes overlook STingrays and then get a chance to play one and just love the classic tank. I am really enjoyng the Sterling HS right now.

BP, I too have a special place in my heart for then new HS Sterling I just got. Man that thing sounds good. Have not gigged it out yet, mainly playing 5's for shows right now, but cannot wait to hear it in a mix.

As far as going through phases, yes, I think we all do. Part of the reason I like having multiple EB's so I can have that choice.

I go through this too; sometimes I play Sterling’s all the time then pull out a Bongo and smile for days. Sometimes I’ll pull out a non-EBMM and mess with it for a minute or two, then usually wonder why I hang on to it. That never happens with my EBMM’s, all keepers.

I don’t have a StingRay in the stable at the moment but that is going to change.

im going thru an HH phase now. the last few weeks hve been the HH Sterling and the Bongo 4 HH. I definaetly go thur phases but honestly there's pretty much 2 constants:

A) i "phase into" the bass w/ newer strings and most recent setup
B) the HS Sterling with new strings and setup remains my #1

but seriously... all of these instruments are awesome imo so flipping and flopping from one version of awesome to another is only natural

Sure I go through phases too...sometimes I play one or one of the others for long periods of time.
That's why I vowed to never anymore get rid of a great playing bass just because I don't play it for a while, and am always glad I kept them. Sometimes I love 'rediscovering' one I haven't played in a while.

i feel the same way thats why i own so many basses. sometimes i feel like a sterling, sometimes i like 77 ray, i love variety (did i spell that right?).
