After an almost 12 month break from gigging, with an international relocation, a new baby, a new job and a new house (we're moving in next week) taking up most of my spare time during that period, I'm in the process of putting together a new band.
I've hooked up with a couple of other 40-somethings (guitarist and female vocalist) who are both very professional and have tons of experience, and we're all thinking alike in terms of what we want to do, which is basically 1 or 2 good corporate shows per month, since we've all got busy day jobs and don't need to gig every week to pay the bills. The guitarist is pursuing a lead on a sax player, which I'm not overly excited about, since I'm not big on having someone in the band who will only be playing on less than half the songs. The hard part will be finding a decent drummer, since as the years have gone by I've become very fussy when it comes to drummers. The guitarist has tons of contacts in Sydney, which is great since I don't, having not lived here for more than 20 years.
The great thing about these people so far is that everybody is doing their homework and coming to rehearsal having done their parts properly, so it all comes together nicely. There's nothing worse than rehearsals that become jams or tutorials.
So, hopefully I'll get a chance to gig the Dargie Bongo before Christmas, assuming we find a drummer and can bang together 50 songs fairly quickly. Oh, and of course, we've got to agree on a band name, so that could add another 6 months to the timetable
