I took a practice amp/combo in for service recently due to a distortion problem. I was told there was an oxidation problem ... just gave it a shot with "contact cleaner and lubricant". Apparently, this is recommended for input/output jacks and cleaning/lubricating pots on guitars. Any insights, cautions etc? I was thinking I would give the pots/jack on my Ray a shot ... but look for advise here first. Thanks in advance!

I use Deoxit or something like that. Bump this on Monday when I am back from vacation and I will double check. It is really good stuff. Dudley turned me on to this stuff. It's really good:cool:

+1 on the deoxit, that stuff works miracles on scratchy pots and faders. I have had pots that I was sure needed to be replaced, a shot of deoxit and smooth and no noise.

I see you are in Mississauga ... where do you buy it locally? Or do you order it online?

Thanks!

I buy it at Audio Operations in Mississauga on Orwell in the Cawthra/Dundas area and they are on the web. They are also a good source for Canare cable (I roll my own:D:D). I've also bought deoxit at the Mississauga Long & McQuade. For pots you need a lube because Deoxit just cleans and you will scratch up the pot over time unless you use a lube as well. The radioshack stuff works too but dexoit is by far the best. Because of the nature of the product it won't ship by air.

Deoxit on contacts, such as jacks.
FaderLube on wipers, such as faders and pots.

WD40 on any parts you don't want to keep, or you want them to rust like hell.

I bought Deoxit at my local Radio Shack. I used it to clean up the pots on a bunch of old Fender basses I sold awhile back. It works super-duper.
