That's a very important factor.

I'm plugging my JP6 into Laney GH50L head and I'm very happy with it.
I've used it with Marshall JCM2000 TSL100 head before which was ok, but I'm much happier with Laney.

Dude! I love my LH50, and also my LC50 combo. I feel like the Lone Ranger usually cuz I rarely hear of anyone else using them. What speaker/cab are you running through? What tubes are you using?

Hey Jake,

Long time no post. How's it goin'? So, you're headin' to California soon. You've got to be excited about that.

Anyway, I thought your dad was waiting for the delivery of a Randall Lynch Box?

I've talked to your Dad about amps before. Can't remember what his opinion of Mesa was. But, the Dual and Triple Rectifiers are pretty cool. Look into the ENGL stuff, as well

Later,
Scott

Way to treat your dad! Sounds like a cool guy.

I use a Mesa Lonestar with my JP6, absolutely no complaints. The onboard reverb is *the best*, the two channels allow lots of flexibility, especially with the footswitch. I use pedals for overdrive and distortion out of habit, but it does have onboard gain with pretty good bite.

Enough writing about it, time to go play it...

I like my new (second hand) Mesa F50.
Not too complicated for dads and me - great sound.... no phenomenal ...for blues, metal, portable, 50 watts... is a joke as it blows my Marshall 50 out of the water.

Also you'll always be able to sell it on for a good price - get a second hand one and treat yourself to something as well!!

Nice gesture to your dad too.

I'm running it through my old Marshall 1960 4x12 cab with G12T-75 drivers, but I'm currently considering getting a different cabinet. Which one are you using?
I'm using EL34 tubes (that's how they ship in Europe by default).
More and more people here are using Laney amps. Laney makes great sounding amps at a very affordable price.

I'm kinda a minority here I think, but I plug into a Fractal Audio Axe-FX...run through a power amp, its versatility and tone wrapped up in a neat freakin packege, plus great customer support.

Mine are both set up with 6L6 (JJ), but I have considered biasing the LH for EL34's, just to see if I like it. I run the head through either one or two 1x12 cabs, and Eminence Wizards sound awesome with both Laneys. One thing that's really sweetened these amps is using an NOS JAN Phillips 12AX7 in the V1 spot, along with standard plate JJ 12AX783S's in the other V spots. The LC50 is the same amp in a combo. Both are set up identically.

Odd thing about the Wizard speaker, though, is that one actually sounds better than two.. weird. But they do mix well with other speakers. I've tried a number of different speakers with the Laneys, and they all sounded good, in one way or another.

Texas Finally!
Amps are such a personal thing everyone has there favorite and it is very subjective to playing styles and tastes of tone, my suggestion is to suprise him with a giftcard and go with him and let him chose his own amp, and I will plug the Mesa Express I have a 5:50 2x12, very versatile, two channel, 5 watt is great for practice and the 50 gets very loud.

I have a Laney VC50 combo, which is a half power version of the VH100R head. It's fifteen hundred bucks, and sounds killer. I wholeheartedly recommend Laney.
