Hello there. i'm on the verge of getting my new Rad Red JP6 =D. something to keep the strat and LP on the edge of their seat!
it's a LTD one and it has the non compesated nut. i wanted to know if any of the two nuts is self lubricated. and how difficult is it to get a lubbed/compensed nut set where the oldie now sits?

They are not self lubricating. If your strings get caught up at the nut people here use some graphite (pencil lead) in between the slots or Big Bendz (sp?) Nut Sauce. EBMM does not retrofit the compwnsated nut to the older guitars but I'm sure an experienced luthier may. I personally wouldn't mess w/ the nut as there is no decernable difference to the average ear.

IMO, I can't hear a difference between the old and new nuts. I say keep it as is. EB will not send you a new nut.

the old nuts are fine
I have an older JP with the non-compensated nut and its great

The compensated nut is supposed to enhance intonation Im sure but its very little to the ear

I use pencil lead as mentioned if it ever gets caught up

My Ib@nez's all need the lube to work

my balls work fine without lube :D

I have one with and one without the compensated nut. I do notice a huge difference in the way chords play in tune with the compensated nut. Especially switching between the E position and A Position Barre chords and open position chords.

I had a guitar with the Buzz nut and I agree that one did nothing for me. But the EBMM compensated nuts work on a different principle, and I notice a big difference. They really work. I understand you may not feel the standard nut is a problem. You can play around sour chords, and you can bend single notes into tune. The dissonant guitar tunings have become tolerated by us over the last forty years of rock-n-roll. But if you want a guitar that plays more in tune all over the fretboard, the EBMM compensated nut does that. Have you tried one?

I saw the title of this thread and thought it was about BP or me:eek:

...tech question about old nut... lol.

I don't know about "self lubricating" but on my JP with the old style nut, the low E was binding a smidge for maybe the first week, and broke itself free and now stays in tune great, if that's what you're looking for.

The Buzz Feiten system sounds great with chords, but it's nothing that is a must for my style. If you're happy playing what you've always played, I don't think having a regular nut is going to bother you at all.

I havent played an EBMM guitar with one of the new nuts, though I have played one with an Earvana nut. Again, I could not tell the difference. Maybe its me! My standard EBMM guitars generally play in tune better than my old Aria, or my Les Paul I used to have.

hmm. i have one with buzz feiten and it's good up till the the 23rd fret. thing is, i have two vintage styled axes but the JP6 is for shredding and i kinda want it in tune right up till 24. there's really not much margin for tolerance when it comes to arpeggios.

and no, i wasn't expecting it for free :p
